'Culinary Class Wars 2' Chef Kim Hee-eun Says Her Father Hit Her with an Ashtray for Choosing Cooking, Reveals Shocking Past
You're My DestinyChef Kim Hee-eun opens up about the hardships she endured to pursue cooking on "Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny".

On Tuesday, March 3 at 10:40 p.m. KST, SBS’s "Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny" will air the first look at the daily life of Michelin-starred chef couple Kim Hee-eun and Yoon Dae-hyun. Kim, who appeared on Netflix’s "Culinary Class Wars 2" as a “White Spoon” and drew buzz for her showdown with monk Seonjae, joins "Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny" as the show’s 101st “destiny couple.”

During a recent recording, the studio buzzed as Kim―one of just four female Michelin-star owner-chefs in Korea―and her husband, chef Yoon Dae-hyun, made their entrance. The couple runs a Haebangchon spot that has retained a Michelin star for three straight years. But Kim stunned everyone by revealing, “My father opposed cooking. He hit me with an ashtray, and I bled,” and, “I ran away from home with only a piggy-bank.” She also shared that she once survived for three days on subway restroom tissue and cheap gimbap just to keep cooking. The panel rallied around her: “You worked so hard,” “Such grit,” and “Reaching this level as a chef is anything but easy.”

Special MC Hong Seok-cheon―often called the “original Itaewon Class” for once operating 13 restaurants in Itaewon and racking up KRW 10 billion in sales―also joined the studio. Currently retired from the restaurant scene and active under the moniker “Minamchelin,” Hong shocked the room by revealing, “My daughter is getting married next January.” He then unveiled an A-list guest lineup from his famed “Hong Seok-cheon’s Jewel Box,” including actors Byun Woo-seok, Choo Young-woo, and Lee Jun-young. Viewers can catch his next-level wedding plans on the broadcast.

Next, a doppelganger of chef Son Jong-won―who’s been trending on "Culinary Class Wars 2" for both skill and visuals―appeared and left the studio stunned. The lookalike was Jo Woo-jong, Korea’s first “announcer-chef” with a Western cuisine license. “People keep saying I look like Son Jong-won these days,” he claimed, sparking the MCs’ mock outrage. Why is Jo insisting on a “parallel theory” with Son? Curiosity is high.

The hidden, unexpected everyday life behind star chefs Kim Hee-eun and Yoon Dae-hyun’s glittering reputation will be revealed on "Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny" on Tuesday, March 3 at 10:40 p.m. KST.
