Community Chest of Korea has issued an official apology over a donor data leak.

According to the organization on March 6, a “2024 Public-Interest Corporation Settlement Report” posted on its website included the real names and resident registration numbers of roughly 600 donors.

The file remained publicly accessible for about 11 months, from April last year until March 4, when the exposure was discovered. The list reportedly included many high-value donors, such as figures from politics and business as well as celebrities. The leaked personal information covered three items―name, resident registration number, and donation amount―with 647 people affected.

“We first want to offer our deepest apologies to our donors,” the organization said. “During the statutory disclosure of public-interest corporation financial statements on April 25, 2025, a file that had not been properly de-identified was mistakenly uploaded.”

“As soon as we became aware of the leak, we deleted the post. After a full review of materials on our website, we confirmed there was no additional exposure,” it added. The organization reported the incident to the Personal Information Protection Commission and is notifying affected donors individually.

It has also formed a response team led by its representative, with information security and related department heads participating, to investigate the cause and establish measures to prevent a recurrence.
