Singer Kim Bada (55), formerly of rock band Sinawe, has been arrested on suspicion of smoking marijuana.
According to the music industry on March 9, Sokcho Police arrested Kim as a flagrant offender on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act (possession and smoking of marijuana) and are questioning him.
He is accused of possessing and inhaling marijuana around 8:30 p.m. the previous day at a house in downtown Sokcho. Police reportedly pursued the case for about two months after receiving a tip about his alleged use.
During questioning, Kim admitted to the allegations, according to police. Authorities are reviewing whether to seek a detention warrant.
Kim recently hinted at a comeback, sharing plans for a new album. Over last month’s Lunar New Year holiday, he told fans he hoped “this year will be filled only with happier, more joyful things.”
Kim debuted in 1995 with the group Bank, then joined Sinawe as the band’s fifth vocalist. He has since performed as a rock vocalist with bands including Butterfly Effect, Ratios, and Art of Parties.
Currently fronting his own band, Kim was scheduled to appear at next month’s music event “Seoul Hero Rock Festival X Tree Hundred.” Disruptions to his performance schedule now seem likely.
