On the March 30 episode of SBS’s "uh, but like, seriously!", SOMI showed off her standout genetics.
During the show, Lee Sang-min brought up his longtime connection with SOMI. “I’ve known SOMI since she was a baby. I know Matthew a bit. I’m friends with SOMI’s dad, Matthew,” he said.
SOMI replied, “After I debuted and started promoting, I realized there are a few people who knew me as a baby. Lee Sang-min is one of them.”
Lee Sang-min then praised SOMI’s father Matthew, saying, “He’s the best-looking among foreigners.” The show followed with photos of Matthew’s peak visuals in his 20s, when he also worked as a model.
Watching the photos, SOMI said, “He still looks like that,” noting that her 51-year-old dad keeps up a strict routine. “I went home after a while and asked him to have a meal together. He told me he was sorry, but I’d missed his eating time by three hours, so he couldn’t. He said it didn’t match his timetable and told me to come back next time,” she shared, drawing laughs.
Lee Sang-min added, “Matthew is a human magnet who attracts not just women but men, too.” SOMI agreed. “My dad was really popular with men as well. I heard that since I was little. Some guy even came up to him and gave him his scarf. And around that time, we also met Hong Seok-cheon,” she said, making everyone laugh.
SOMI also revealed she holds three nationalities, showing her Korean, Canadian, and Dutch passports. “My dad is half Canadian and half Dutch, so he passed two nationalities down to me. That’s why I have three,” she explained.
SOMI looked back on taking first place on the audition program "Produce 101." “I kept ranking No. 1 during the show, so I did think I’d debut near the top. But when my name still wasn’t called by second place, I got nervous. Then they called ‘No. 1, SOMI,’ and I was so happy,” she recalled.
She also shared why getting first meant so much. “Because I’m mixed, I used to wonder, ‘Which nation do I belong to?’ I often felt like I didn’t fully fit here or there. So I thought, if I could win and get the ‘national center’ title, that would be amazing. That’s why I really wanted first place,” she said candidly.
