Singer-actor Lee Seung-gi has begun the process to end his exclusive contract with Big Planet Made Entertainment (Big Planet).
According to his legal representative on the 6th, Lee notified the company at the end of March that he was terminating the contract for breaching the agreement. His side says the termination was executed lawfully.
Non-payment of staff costs was a decisive factor behind the move, according to those close to the situation.
“We tried to maintain trust despite various issues surrounding the company and some unpaid payments,” his side said. “But problems arose with support for his activities and payments to staff and external vendors. To prevent on-site staff from going unpaid, we had no choice but to terminate the contract.”
Lee plans to carry out his previously scheduled activities without disruption. He also expressed his intent to “continue working responsibly so as not to disappoint fans and on-site staff.”
Big Planet is a label under One Hundred. Recently, following TAEMIN and THE BOYZ, there have been reports that VIVIZ, Lee Mujin, and BE'O also notified the label of contract termination, signaling a growing wave of artist departures. The company has said that “discussions and adjustments are underway according to each artist’s contract terms,” denying some allegations, but signs of continued exits are fueling broader trust concerns around the label.
