Ahn Hyo-seop, SBS' 'Son,' Returns with 'Sold Out on You': "It's a Drama You Can Watch While You Eat"
Ahn Hyo-seopAhn Hyo-seop, star of “Sold Out on You,” shared why he loves the project and what to watch for.

Premiering April 22, SBS’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “Sold Out on You” (written by Jin Seung-hee, directed by Ahn Jong-yeon) is a romance about perfectionist farmer Matthew Lee (Ahn Hyo-seop) and sellout-obsessed shopping host Dam Ye-jin (Chae Won-bin) whose lives get tangled day and night. Playing Matthew Lee, a young farmer who strives for perfection, Ahn revealed character insights through the production team on the 6th.

Following "Dr. Romantic," "Business Proposal," and "Lovers of the Red Sky," “Sold Out on You” marks Ahn’s long-awaited reunion with SBS. “I’m a little shy about being called ‘SBS’ son,’ but it does make me feel supported and trusted,” he said. “It’s been a while since I did a light romantic comedy after Business Proposal, so I’m excited on that front, too. I’m grateful to be part of this project.”

After winning global fans with "KPop Demon Hunters," anticipation is high for Ahn’s new rom-com lead. Defining Matthew Lee’s keyword as “soboro bread” (a soft bun with a crumbly, cookie-like topping), Ahn explained, “He looks firm and cold on the outside, but he’s warm inside. Even if it doesn’t show, he looks out for the people around him. Matthew felt like someone who needs attention and love, and that drew my eye from the start.”

To build the character, Ahn said, “I focused a lot on his eyes when he’s working. He’s a young farmer, a raw-materials company CEO, and a cosmetics researcher―someone who does a lot―so I imagined he’d be professional and flawless in his field. But with the villagers, he’d be awkward. He might be prickly, yet he still wants to help. Not perfect, but earnestly trying in a cute way.”

“In short, what I cared about most was sincerity,” he added. “Matthew Lee is sincere about everything―people and his work. He approaches it all with a genuine heart.”

As for why to tune in, Ahn said, “This is a show you can watch while eating. Good messages are universal. People everywhere―not just in Korea―have everyday worries and their own stresses. I hope this drama can offer some comfort, even for a moment, over a good meal.”

“Sold Out on You” premieres Wednesday, April 22 at 9 p.m.
