Hollywood stars Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway named “culture” as Korea’s signature luxury.
At a press conference for "The Devil Wears Prada 2" held at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul in Gwanghwamun on the morning of the 8th, Meryl Streep greeted the press in Korean, saying, “Annyeonghaseyo.”
On her first official visit to Korea, Streep shared her first impressions: “I was excited flying in and seeing the beautiful mountain ranges. It’s my first time in Korea. And the hotel I’m staying at is the best I’ve ever experienced. The bed was so comfortable―I slept wonderfully.”
She added, “It’s my first time here, and I’m thrilled to show you this film that I love so much.”

Returning to Korea after eight years, Anne Hathaway said, “My only regret is that this trip is too short. I wanted to visit places like the Starfield Library and more. But I’ll try to experience as much as I can with the time I have―and figure out how to eat as much delicious food as possible.”
Asked what she considers Korea’s defining luxury―across brands, culture, and people―Hathaway answered, “I think Korea’s younger generation is driving culture, and that’s a major strength globally. Korea is outstanding in music, fashion, and skin care, and there’s huge international interest. There’s also a wealth of cultural content. If I were a features editor, I’d spotlight those areas.”
Streep responded to the same question, “I’m very interested in Korean barbecue. I spend a lot of time in L.A., and there’s a Korean BBQ spot near the hockey rink where my son used to play―we went there often. We hear so much about Korean culture in the U.S. My grandchildren talk about 'KPop Demon Hunters' a lot and listen to the music. The U.S. and Korea are far apart, but culture connects us and has a big influence.”

Hathaway added, “If I were an editor, I’d also want to interview directors Bong Joon-ho and Park Chan-wook.”
"The Devil Wears Prada 2" is the sequel to "The Devil Wears Prada" (2006), which captured the cutthroat side of the high-fashion world with irresistible style and a coming-of-age story many relate to.
Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci reunite after 20 years, drawing massive fan attention.
The film opens in Korea on April 29.
