
Horror film ‘Salmokji : Whispering Water’ pulled in 720,000 moviegoers nationwide in its opening week and is on the verge of breaking even.
According to the Korean Film Council’s box office tracking on the 13th, ‘Salmokji : Whispering Water’ drew 536,454 viewers nationwide from the 10th to the 12th, topping the weekend box office. Its cumulative audience now stands at 724,039.
After opening on the 8th, ‘Salmokji : Whispering Water’ debuted at No. 1 and kept its momentum through the weekend. It surpassed 700,000 admissions in five days, closing in on its break-even point of around 800,000. It’s expected to cross that mark this week.
‘Salmokji : Whispering Water’ follows a Street View filming crew who step into Salmokji Reservoir, a place plagued by eerie rumors. The film stars Kim Hye-yoon, Lee Jong-won, and Kim Joon-han. Made on a low budget of around 3 billion won, ‘Salmokji : Whispering Water’ is powering the spring box office with its intriguing premise and a focused push on special-format screens.
