After The 'KPop Demon Hunters' Whirlwind, Ahn Hyo-seop Returns as SBS' 'Son': "Feels like Coming Home"
Ahn Hyo-seopAhn Hyo-seop, who is making his SBS drama comeback with “Sold Out on You,” shared how it feels to return.

At the production presentation for the new SBS Wednesday-Thursday drama “Sold Out on You” (written by Jin Seung-hee, directed by Ahn Jong-yeon) held at SBS headquarters in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 15th, Ahn said, “I get shy every time people call me the ‘SBS son,’” adding, “It just happened that I ended up doing several projects with SBS. Whenever I read a great script, it turns out to be SBS. We’ve synced up a lot, so today really feels like coming home.”

Ahn has earned the “SBS son” nickname thanks to the major success of his SBS projects, including "Dr. Romantic," "Lovers of the Red Sky," and "Business Proposal," which naturally raises anticipation for his new SBS series “Sold Out on You.” Addressing the pressure, he answered calmly, “Me feeling burdened won’t change anything, so I want to focus on the present.”

In particular, Ahn is receiving love worldwide for his role as Jinu in Netflix’s "KPop Demon Hunters," making his next move a hot topic. He said, “I’m so grateful for the love toward my career moves, but right now I’m devoted solely to ‘Sold Out on You,’” emphasizing his focus on the new series.

“Sold Out on You” is a romance drama about perfectionist farmer Matthew Lee (played by Ahn Hyo-seop) and sellout-driven show host Dam Ye-jin (played by Chae Won-bin) whose lives become tangled day and night. Matthew Lee is a “three-job young farmer” in Deokpung Village―meticulous and prickly when it comes to work―yet around town he’s affectionately nicknamed “Mechuri” (quail) and hustles to handle all kinds of requests from the village elders. This perfectionist meets Dam Ye-jin, who stands in a similar place in life, and the two become a source of rest for each other.

Ahn said, “When I first got the script, I read up to episode 3. I’d been doing heavier, emotionally draining projects and was seriously thinking about the direction of my life, and this one really healed me. There’s no special villain, no grand events―it just captures how we live day by day, and that resonated with me.”

Having stepped onto the global stage through "KPop Demon Hunters," Ahn believes “Sold Out on You” can also win over viewers worldwide. “Our story carries a universal message. While ‘Sold Out on You’ could sound like ‘let’s work hard,’ paradoxically it’s saying, ‘you don’t always have to,’” he explained. “Matthew Lee and Dam Ye-jin have been hard on themselves and living too busily, and by meeting each other they become a place of rest. Wherever people are working hard around the world, we want to tell them, ‘It’s okay to take it easy today.’”

SBS’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “Sold Out on You” premieres Wednesday the 22nd at 9 p.m.
