Lim Ji-yeon's Joseon Villain Survival Rom-Com 'My Royal Nemesis' Unleashes First Teaser
Meotjin SinsegyeThe first teaser for "My Royal Nemesis", starring Lim Ji-yeon as a notorious Joseon-era villain adapting to 21st-century Korea, is out now.

Premiering May 8 on SBS, the new Friday-Saturday drama "My Royal Nemesis" (written by Kang Hyeon-ju, directed by Han Tae-seop) is a high-tension, war-like rom-com between Shin Se-ri (played by Lim Ji-yeon), an unknown actress possessed by the soul of the infamous Joseon villain Kang Dan-sim (also Lim Ji-yeon), and Cha Segye (played by Heo Nam-joon), a ruthless chaebol dubbed “the monster of capitalism.” Director Han Tae-seop of "Hot Stove League" and "Cheer Up" teams up with rookie writer Kang Hyeon-ju.

On the 16th, the production unveiled the first teaser, cranking up anticipation. It spotlights the fierce survival instincts of a “Joseon villain” who wakes up in modern-day Korea.

After drinking poison and dying in Joseon, Kang Dan-sim time-slips into the body of 21st-century unknown actress Shin Se-ri. Se-ri is momentarily dazed by her new reality, then snaps, “Like hell I’d be better off dead!” She vows, “This life, I’m going to claw my way through!” Her no-brakes crash-landing and determination to survive in this “new world” tease a wild adaptation arc in Korea today.

In the teaser, Se-ri’s eyes sparkle as she devours a newspaper, then she sprints full-throttle across town―and even throws a midair roundhouse kick. Her next-level adaptability and swagger as the “Joseon villain” poised to take over Korea in 2026 dominate the screen.

Her encounter with the “ruthless chaebol” Cha Segye adds extra spice. Se-ri declares, “I’ll use you as my spear and shield,” then charges into his arms and gazes up with Puss in Boots?like eyes. Moments later, Se-ri briskly slaps the cheek of a fainted Segye, and his line―“What a truly ridiculous woman”―teases an unpredictable dynamic between the two.

"My Royal Nemesis", which comically follows the 21st-century survival journey of “Joseon villain” Lim Ji-yeon, will premiere after Phantom Lawyer on Friday, May 8, at 9:50 p.m.
