At the press screening and media Q&A for the film “Audition 109” held at CGV Yongsan in Seoul on the afternoon of the 16th, Jung Woo said, “The first audition of my life was for a film by Director Jang Hang-jun. Standing there acting out an audition in front of him made me choke up. I felt a rush of mixed emotions.”
“Audition 109” is a spirited, feel-good drama about an “audition ace,” Jjanggu (Jung Woo), who keeps getting knocked down but stands back up, driven by one dream: to become an actor. It continues the narrative from the 2009 film “Wish,” following Jjanggu’s journey as he pursues his acting goals.
Director Jang Hang-jun makes a cameo in the new film. In the scene where Jjanggu auditions, Jang appears as the judging director and asks, “Mr. Kim Jung-guk (Jjanggu’s legal name and also Jung Woo’s real name), why do you act?”

This moment can be seen as the film’s highlight, capturing the aspiring actor’s sincere performance and a personal confession.
Co-director Oh Sung-ho, who helmed the film with Jung Woo, also picked this as “Audition 109”’s signature scene. He explained, “Jjanggu goes through tough times and hardship, but he keeps it all bottled up instead of letting it out. Then, in the ‘Shiri’ monologue scene, it all pours out at once. In that moment, Jjanggu’s acting is a heartfelt confession about the time he’s endured. I hope audiences really feel that catharsis.”
Jung Woo, who wrote the screenplay for “Wish,” served as both writer and director for its sequel, “Wish.” The film opens on the 22nd.
