Actor Park Ji-hwan is heading to Yeongwol, Gangwon―both the key setting of the film ‘The King's Warden’ and a real historical site.

Beloved for his turn as the “Yeongwol County Governor” in the 16-million-admission hit ‘The King's Warden,’ Park will meet locals and visitors at the 59th Danjong Culture Festival, held April 24?26 across Jangneung, Cheongnyeongpo, and the Donggang riverside in Yeongwol, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.

His visit comes as the film’s nationwide buzz has spotlighted Yeongwol. Park is making the trip to honor the special bond formed with the region through his role as Yeongwol’s county governor in the movie.

On April 26, the festival’s grand finale, Park will stop by the ‘Chik Rope Tug-of-War’ competition―an intangible cultural heritage and the festival’s signature event. In this Yeongwol-only folk game, hundreds of residents split into East and West teams for a massive showdown. Before the main match, Park will greet the crowd and take part in a surprise moment by striking the gong to officially kick off the contest, ramping up the festival energy.

Meanwhile, director Jang Hang-jun of ‘The King's Warden’ will connect with citizens through a history talk during the festival. Under the theme “History Through a Creator’s Eyes: The Story of Danjong,” Jang will share production behind-the-scenes and his cinematic imagination with the public. Following Jang’s lead, Park will bring extra excitement on-site, rounding out a culture festival where film and history meet.
