The April 21 episode of SBS’s ‘Chefs' Secrets of K-food’ shared the pair’s first journey together.
During the show, Defconn asked how Choi Kang-rok and Kim Do-yoon first clicked.
Choi said, “Chef Kim Do-yoon was already really popular. During the Season 1 taping of 'Culinary Class Wars,' there were snacks on set but no coffee. On day two, he brought a coffee machine. People even came over from the next room for it.”
He continued, “After setting it up, he did the mission―but he got eliminated. After the mission, he was packing up the machine and no one was helping. So I helped him.” That unexpected moment brought them closer.
Choi added, “In Season 2, I was in the waiting room when I heard he got eliminated early again. That time he’d brought a noodle maker. It was so big he couldn’t even take it home that day,” sharing a can’t-help-but-laugh story.
Kim Do-yoon said, “In Season 2, I was out early, so I asked Chef Choi to grab a drink after. I didn’t know he’d come in first.”
Choi recalled, “We were drinking and he goes, ‘Let’s toast to the winner. Apparently, he's part of the white spoon team.’ I couldn’t say I won. After the episode aired, he messaged me, ‘Why didn’t you tell me?’” hinting at the strict no-spoiler rules―even with close friends.
