The second highest-grossing film of all time, 'The King's Warden', is launching on an OTT service.

On the 22nd, Coupang Play announced that 'The King's Warden' will be available for individual purchase starting on the 29th.

'The King's Warden' depicts the fateful journey of a young king, 'Lee Hong-wi (Park Ji-hoon)', who is exiled to Cheongryeongpo after being ousted from the throne, and the village head, 'Eom Heung-do (Yoo Hae-jin)', who is tasked with watching over him. The film was directed by Jang Hang-jun and stars Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, and Jeon Mi-do.

Released on February 4, 'The King's Warden' surpassed 10 million viewers in 31 days and 15 million viewers in 50 days. Now in its 12th week of release, it continues to show momentum, having surpassed 16.61 million cumulative viewers. It ranks second in all-time box office history, following 'The Admiral: Roaring Currents' (17.61 million), and holds the record for the highest all-time revenue (approximately 160.4 billion KRW).

'The King's Warden', which is beginning its OTT service 76 days after its release, will meet viewers on Coupang Play through transactional video on demand (TVOD). This method involves paying for each film individually, which differs from subscription video on demand (SVOD) services like Netflix, where users pay a subscription fee to access all content.

While the specific details of the contract between Coupang Play and 'The King's Warden' have not been disclosed, the investment distributor and production company are expected to generate secondary revenue through this method.
