Actor Yoo Ji-tae is expanding his support for film students following his long-standing dedication to independent cinema.
Through Yoo Ji-tae’s active involvement, Basics Co., Ltd. has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for industry-academic cooperation with the Department of Media Acting at Konkuk University’s College of Art and Design, providing computer equipment to foster the next generation of video creators.
This collaboration is rooted in the philosophy Yoo Ji-tae has consistently emphasized while working as a professor: the importance of strengthening students' practical skills and bridging the gap in creative environments.
Through this MOU, Basics will provide approximately 10 million won worth of laptops and computer equipment. This allows students to immerse themselves in creating creative video content using AI technology without the burden of purchasing expensive equipment.
Students from the Department of Media Acting at Konkuk University plan to use the donated equipment to participate in the "KlingAI NEXTGEN 2026 University Student Creator Video Creation Challenge," organized by MBC C&I. As generative AI technology has recently emerged as a core element of content production, a foundation has been established for students to realize their ideas without technical limitations.
Yoo Ji-tae has been personally funding the "Watching Independent Films with Yoo Ji-tae" event every year to help expand the base of independent cinema. This MOU reflects his heart as a mentor, hoping that future actors and directors who will work in the industry can build their skills without being constrained by their technical environment.
Konkuk University stated, "We are delighted that our students can continue their creative activities in a more stable environment thanks to Professor Yoo Ji-tae’s active efforts," adding, "We will continue to foster creative content talent who can lead the AI era based on industry-linked practical experience."
