Director July Jung's new film 'Dora' was invited to the Directors' Fortnight section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, where the team completed their local schedule. Following its world premiere on May 17 (local time), the film once again stepped into the spotlight with a red carpet event on the night of May 18 around the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France. Director July Jung, along with actors Kim Do-yeon and Ando Sakura, attended the event.
The red carpet event held on the night of the 18th was an unusual schedule for a film invited to the Directors' Fortnight, proving the high expectations and intense interest surrounding the film in Cannes. Director July Jung has had all of her directorial features ('A Girl at My Door', 'Next Sohee', and 'Dora') invited to the Cannes Film Festival. Ando Sakura also shares a long-standing history with Cannes, having starred in the Palme d'Or-winning 'Shoplifters' and the Best Screenplay-winning 'Monster'.
This marked Kim Do-yeon's first visit to the Cannes Film Festival. It was her first time attending a world premiere screening as well as her first red carpet experience. However, she showed no signs of nervousness. Appearing on the red carpet in a black tube-top dress, Kim Do-yeon remained unfazed by the barrage of flashes from international photographers, fully enjoying the moment. Although this is her first time on an international stage as an actress, her past experience performing on massive stages during her days with the group I.O.I seemed to serve as a valuable asset.
'Dora' tells the story of a family that leaves Seoul for a seaside villa in the middle of summer. While staying there, Dora, who suffers from a mysterious illness, experiences love for the first time, causing everything around her to slowly unravel. Kim Do-yeon took on the title role of 'Dora', delivering a deeply emotional performance. During the film's premiere screening, she was moved to tears by the overwhelming applause from the audience.
Having successfully completed its official schedule at the Cannes Film Festival, 'Dora' is scheduled to hit domestic theaters in the second half of this year.
