Rapper Yang Hong-won (28) opened up about starting a family after dating for nearly eight years, sharing the honest reactions of their parents when they found out they were going to be mom and dad.
On June 11, Yang Hong-won appeared alongside his wife, Won Hyun-ju (30), in a newly released YouTube video, where they candidly shared the story behind their decision to marry and have a child, as well as their deep affection for each other.
During the video, when asked about their parents' reactions to their decision to have a baby, Yang Hong-won explained, "All four of them had similar reactions. They highly praised us just for taking responsibility and making the decision ourselves. They probably thought the younger generation wouldn't make such a commitment easily, so they actually looked at us with pride."
Won Hyun-ju added, "It wasn't really about getting permission or not. We decided to have the baby, and it was just a natural process of preparing to build our family together."
The couple also revealed their wedding plans. Yang Hong-won announced, "We plan to hold our wedding this October." When asked if there had been a proposal, Won Hyun-ju replied, "He doesn't need to do one. I've always been someone who values practical matters over things like weddings or childbirth." She added, "I already feel like I've received a proposal, so I don't need a formal event."
Yang Hong-won also expressed his affection, saying, "Right now, we are custom-making our wedding rings together. Rather than just lovers, we've always had a strong sense of being on the same team, the same family. I've always felt that way since we were young. It feels great to finally become a real family now."
The two then recalled the moments they felt most grateful to each other. Yang Hong-won shared, "When I was around 20, there was a time when I didn't even know the word 'depression.' I locked myself in the studio, just drinking and rapping, feeling like my life was ruined. I didn't even know what emotions I was experiencing. In that moment, Hyun-ju told me, 'I'll help you.' The line 'Get up if you need to' in my song 'POLO' is also connected to my memories of that time."
Won Hyun-ju also shared that thanks to her boyfriend, Yang Hong-won, she developed a "secure style." Tearing up, she said, "I used to have low self-esteem and was very passive, but Hong-won saw the real me right from the start. I thought I had nothing and was nothing special, but Hong-won recognized a different side of me. I was so grateful for that. Just having someone like him by my side gave me immense strength."
Meanwhile, Yang Hong-won and Won Hyun-ju are a long-term couple who have been dating for about eight years, and they welcomed their daughter, Yang Rua, in November of last year. At the time, Yang Hong-won shared the news of his daughter's birth on social media, writing, "Hyun-ju did it! My daughter, Yang Rua," receiving warm congratulations from many.
