The 5-million-ticket-selling hit film 'COLONY' is making remarkable waves in the global premium cinema market.

CJ 4DPLEX, a subsidiary of CGV, announced on the 16th that 'COLONY' has reached approximately 160,000 cumulative viewers and generated about $1.7 million in box office revenue through specialized technology formats such as SCREENX and 4DX. By format, SCREENX and 4DX each drew around 70,000 viewers, while the combined SCREENX/4DX format attracted over 20,000, continuing its strong box office performance.

Currently, 'COLONY' is being screened in 118 premium technology theaters across 12 countries, including South Korea, as well as regions in Asia, Oceania, and Europe. This includes 55 SCREENX screens, 53 4DX screens, and 10 combined SCREENX/4DX theaters.

In key Asian markets such as Taiwan, Malaysia, and Thailand, the film is competing head-to-head with Hollywood blockbusters and ranking at the top of the charts for premium format screenings. In Taiwan, it achieved the highest box office performance ever for a Korean film released in premium technology formats. In Malaysia, it surpassed titles like 'Project Hail Mary' and 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' to claim the No. 1 spot at the box office for premium technology releases in 2026. In Thailand, it set a new record for the highest opening box office for a premium technology release this year, becoming the highest-grossing Korean film in these formats to date.

'COLONY' offers international audiences a unique viewing experience by bringing its massive swarm scenes and high-tension chase sequences to life through the immersive capabilities of SCREENX and 4DX. Following its release in Australia, Vietnam, and Cambodia, 'COLONY' is scheduled to hit theaters in North America this August.

Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, 'COLONY' follows a group of survivors trapped inside a building sealed off due to a mysterious infection, as they fight against infected individuals who evolve in unpredictable ways. The film was released on the 21st of last month and surpassed 5 million viewers nationwide in just 24 days.
