Singer WOODZ (real name Cho Seung-youn) is making his screen debut in the film "Nambeol" (literal title).
"Nambeol" is a hard-boiled martial arts action film set in the early Joseon Dynasty, following nine warriors with diverse skills and social ranks as they head to Tsushima Island to rescue hostages kidnapped by Japanese raiders. Following the early casting news of actors Lee Byung-hun, Go Youn-jung, and Lee Do-hyun, Cho Seung-youn, who is active as a representative K-icon, has joined the lineup, raising expectations for bringing fresh energy to the project.
Cho Seung-youn plays "Cheotnom", an infallible archer who embarks on the dangerous expedition to Tsushima Island to provide for his family left behind at home. With a strong sense of responsibility toward his family and comrades, "Cheotnom" will add deep emotional lines to the film through his desperate conviction to protect everyone amidst a harsh battlefield.
Having solidified his position as an artist with an overwhelming presence on stage, Cho Seung-youn opens a new horizon as an actor through "Nambeol". He plans to promote in his acting activities under his real name, Cho Seung-youn. Curiosity is growing over what kind of acting and energy he will show on the screen as he expands his spectrum through various projects.
"Nambeol" is receiving significant attention as the directorial debut of cinematographer Lee Mo-gae, who has showcased unique mise-en-scene in bold works such as "12.12: The Day", "Exhuma", "Yadang", and "Emergency Declaration". Having been recognized for his outstanding sense by winning the Film Category Art Award at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards, the Cinematography and Lighting Award at the 43rd and 37th Blue Dragon Film Awards, and the Cinematography Award at the 31st and 29th Blue Dragon Film Awards, he is expected to showcase exceptional directing skills by capturing grand narratives along with intense action and visuals in this new work.
Foreshadowing overwhelming casting synergy with the addition of Cho Seung-youn following Lee Byung-hun, Go Youn-jung, and Lee Do-hyun, "Nambeol" is currently in pre-production with the goal of cranking in during the second half of 2026.
