Actor Choi Minsik is returning to the screen in the Hollywood remake film "The Intern" following the box office success of "Exhuma," which drew 10 million moviegoers.
"The Intern" tells a workplace story that transcends generations and job ranks, beginning when Keeho (Choi Minsik), a 37-year veteran senior intern, joins the company of Sun-woo (Han Sohee), who rapidly emerged as a dark horse in the fashion industry three years after launch.
Choi Minsik is widely recognized as one of Korea's representative acting powerhouses. He earned the title of the original "man of Cannes" through deep ties to the Cannes Film Festival with "Happy End," "Painted Fire," "Oldboy," and "Crying Fist." He also led films that rewrote Korean box office history, including "Shiri," "Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time," "New World," and "The Admiral: Roaring Currents," which recorded the highest box office attendance in Korean film history. Notably, his recent work "Exhuma" (2024) drew 11.91 million viewers, achieving another 10-million milestone.
Attention is focused on his choice of "The Intern" as his new project. This work is a remake of the same-titled film starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway, which attracted 3.61 million viewers domestically. In this film, Choi Minsik takes on the older intern role played by Robert De Niro.
Keeho, played by Choi Minsik, is a silver intern embarking on his second act in life as the youngest member of the fashion startup Oututu. As a veteran with 37 years of experience and plenty of age and background, Keeho wears a suit complete with sleeve protectors, adapting to unfamiliar digital culture and a free-spirited company atmosphere with his signature diligence and warm humanity while unfolding a cheerful K-office survival story.
In addition, as he is assigned as the direct intern to the young and capable rookie CEO Sun-woo (Han Sohee), the story is set to deliver deep empathy and comfort to audiences through communication and friendship that cross generations and job ranks.
Han Sohee, who worked alongside him, stated, "He is warm, affectionate, and even cute," raising anticipation for the charm Choi Minsik will portray as Keeho.
