The sentencing hearing for individual A, who was put on trial for stalking actor Hwang Jung-min, is set to take place.
On the 11th, the Goyang Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court will hold the sentencing hearing for A, whom Hwang Jung-min filed a complaint against for violating the Stalking Punishment Act and other charges. The prosecution's sentencing recommendation is expected to be made during the trial.
Hwang Jung-min filed a complaint against A in August of last year for charges including violations of the Stalking Punishment Act. Following this, the court issued a summary order of 3 million won in fines against A in February of the following year, but A appealed the decision and requested a formal trial.
The conflict between the two, who were previously known as an actor and a fan, escalated when A used social media to release photos, text messages, and call recordings claiming a personal relationship with Hwang Jung-min. In response, Hwang Jung-min's side released an official statement defining A as a stalking suspect who had continuously harassed Hwang Jung-min, noting that the court had issued three provisional measures, including restraining orders.
Regarding the posts released by A, they warned of a strong response, stating, "We plan to take additional legal action regarding maliciously edited posts."
However, A denied the stalking charges, claiming that they had personal exchanges with Hwang Jung-min and even pursued business together. Furthermore, A characterized the situation as "emotional, sexual, and labor exploitation occurring amid an asymmetry of power."
A also filed a damages lawsuit worth approximately 200 million won against Hwang Jung-min. A claimed to have suffered losses in the process of working on a soju business project proposed by Hwang Jung-min after the project was cancelled. The Seoul Central District Court referred the civil case to mediation last June, and a mediation date is scheduled for the 14th.
A's exposés targeting Hwang Jung-min continued until the morning of the 11th, the day of the sentencing hearing for the charges including violations of the Stalking Punishment Act. A has continued to upload multiple posts on social media, exposing and criticizing Hwang Jung-min.
