The animated film "Free Dogs" has surpassed 10,000 cumulative admissions nationwide, demonstrating the strength of Korean animation.
"Free Dogs" is a touching adventure animation that follows Moongchi (D.O.), an abandoned dog whose life changes overnight, as he embarks on a rough journey for true freedom alongside friends with various stories, such as Jjang-ah (Park Chul-min), a survival master of the streets, and Bami (Park So-dam), a girl-crush character who escaped from a dog farm.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing computer network on the 28th, "Free Dogs" surpassed the milestone of 10,000 cumulative moviegoers. This achievement is all the more meaningful as it was accomplished despite a severe disadvantage in screen counts amid a fierce summer peak season dominated by commercial films securing massive screens and seats.
Above all, enthusiastic responses from audiences continue to pour in, bolstered by a high Naver user rating of 9.75. The film has drawn praise for its cross-generational story delivered by directors Oh Sung-yoon and Lee Chun-baek, who previously opened new horizons for Korean animation with "Leafie, A Hen into the Wild," as well as its quirky characters and dynamic action set against the backdrop of South Korea's natural scenery.
"Free Dogs" is currently available in Lotte Cinema theaters nationwide.
