"Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia" (written by Pyeon Seung-keun, directed by Lee Jung-rim) is a refreshing medical noir depicting the journey of Dr. Gye Su-jeong (played by Kim Ji-won), a "mad dog of the operating room" who shatters massive systemic corruption with her genius surgical skills. It is the first medical genre entry in the SBS refreshing universe following hits such as "Taxi Driver", "The Fiery Priest", and "The Judge from Hell".
The released script reading stills featured a powerhouse lineup of veteran actors, including lead cast members Kim Ji-won, Lee Jung-eun, Son Hyun-ju, and Kim Woo-seok, who displayed strong chemistry together.
Kim Ji-won immediately captured attention by perfectly immersing herself in the role of Gye Su-jeong, a genius surgeon and dark hero who relies solely on her surgical prowess. Gye Su-jeong is a surgeon dispatched from a medical temp agency who turns the rigid hierarchy of the corruption-ridden Guseo University Hospital upside down purely through her exceptional skills, earning her the nickname "surgery room mad dog". Kim Ji-won effortlessly embodied the untouchable aura of a character obsessed with surgery as well as her unexpected charm outside the hospital, raising anticipation for the birth of a new medical dark hero.
Lee Jung-eun showcased her vibrant presence by radiating lively charm as Jang Hee-sook, the head of the medical temp agency. Jang Hee-sook is a clever tactician who appears to care only about money, but she brings a fresh layer of entertainment to the drama by taking care of her agency's surgeon, Gye Su-jeong. Lee Jung-eun's solid acting skills amplify the charming allure of Jang Hee-sook, who balances the tension of the story, while her chemistry with Kim Ji-won that goes beyond a standard business partnership is expected to deliver additional entertainment.
Meanwhile, Son Hyun-ju anchored the production with heavy charisma as Boo Seung-kwon, the vice director of Guseo University Hospital, and Kim Woo-seok heightened excitement by taking on the role of elite intern Park Tae-kyung, forming a unique mentor-mentee dynamic with Kim Ji-won.
Additionally, actors Lee Jin-hee, Kim Young-min, Lee Sung-wook, Kwon Seung-woo, Heo Jun-seok, Choi Deok-moon, Kim Jung-young, Kim Young-ah, and Choi Kwang-il delivered tight and polished performances backed by their respective acting expertise.
