BTOB's Lee Chang-sub (35) shared a message reflecting on himself following recent controversy over his remarks on a web variety show.
On the 22nd, Lee Chang-sub shared via the fan communication platform Fromm, "It seems like there is a line people should not cross, and while carrying out my recent schedules, it feels like I crossed that line without realizing it. Thinking that I needed to do better, be more entertaining, and be more memorable within content, I found myself obsessing over it without knowing. I had become numb to provocative expressions myself. I will return to my initial mindset, reflect on my words and behavior, and become a moderate person."
This is interpreted as his official stance regarding the controversy surrounding his remarks released on the YouTube channel "12F" on the 17th.
In the video, a story was introduced about a couple where the boyfriend, who drives his girlfriend home after every date, asked her to throw away his trash from inside the car every time, leading to arguments.
Regarding this story, Lee Chang-sub, Kwak Beom, and pH-1 reacted strongly with the stance that the girlfriend lacked consideration, while Kim Ji-yu also sided with the boyfriend. On the other hand, Kim Won-hun alone defended the girlfriend, saying, "This is not trash generated during the date, but the boyfriend's personal trash, so he should handle it himself. Saying 'I did this much by picking you up with my car, so you should do this much' is childish."
In response, Lee Chang-sub reacted strongly, saying, "He went to pick her up without missing a single day. Conversely, if he told his girlfriend, 'I'm tired, so take the bus,' she would probably get upset," and "If she paid for gas because she was grateful that her boyfriend drove her home, then the boyfriend asking her to 'throw away the trash' might have felt a bit off." However, he also backed down a bit, saying, "If it was only the boyfriend's trash, it could feel unpleasant."
Following the broadcast, reactions in the comment section were mixed. One commenter expressed that they would not want to ask even an acquaintance to handle their trash, while another stated that the very idea of asking a lover to throw away one's own trash was hard to understand. There were also reactions that if treating relationships like a transaction is what love is, it would be better not to do it at all.
