LISA of the group BLACKPINK shed tears of joy as she took home the "Best Pop" award at the MTV Video Music Awards (MTV VMAs).
LISA was announced as the winner in the "Best Pop" category with her solo track "Dream" at the "2026 MTV VMAs" held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California, on September 27 (local time). With this achievement, she made history as both the first K-pop solo artist and the first female K-pop artist to win the category.
When her name was called, LISA appeared visibly moved and was brought to tears after accepting the trophy on stage.
"Thank you so much, everyone. Thank you for giving me this amazing award," she said. She added, "Thank you so much to everyone who helped create this song, and thank you for giving me inspiration." LISA then shared a message of gratitude directly to her fans in Thai.
"Dream" is a collaborative single featuring Japanese actor Sakaguchi Kentaro. The "Best Pop" category also featured prominent Western pop stars, including Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, and Olivia Rodrigo, who scored 11, 9, and 8 nominations respectively at this year's ceremony. BTS previously took home the trophy in this category as a group in 2020.
