On the afternoon of October 7, a press conference for the new Friday-Saturday drama "Doctor X: Mafia in White" (written by Pyeon Seong-geun, directed by Lee Jung-rim; hereinafter referred to as "Doctor X: Mafia in White") was held at the SBS headquarters in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. Director Lee Jung-rim attended the event alongside actors Kim Ji-won, Lee Jung-eun, Son Hyun-joo, and Kim Woo-seok.
"Doctor X: Mafia in White" is an exhilarating medical noir depicting the journey of Doctor X Kye Soo-jung (played by Kim Ji-won)—the "operating room's crazy Kye"—who breaks down massive absurdities with genius surgical skills. Son Hyun-joo portrays Boo Seung-kwon, the director of Guseo University Hospital, who constantly wrestles with dilemmas over the hospital's development and harmony between the old and the new.
On this day, Son Hyun-joo drew laughter at the venue by recalling, "I once played a doctor when I was very much a rookie. My line back then was, 'Nurse, prep for surgery,' and I still remember it. Decades after that line, I finally got to play a hospital director."
He then signaled a new transformation through this project. Son Hyun-joo shared the realistic struggles of his character, saying, "When else would I ever get to play a hospital director again? As the unconventional Kye Soo-jung enters the picture, he continues to face difficult dilemmas over how to lead the hospital."
He also expressed deep trust in his fellow actors and the director. Son Hyun-joo did not hide his confidence in the production, remarking, "It was my first time working with all the fellow actors, and from the first shoot to the last, I felt that 'Kye Soo-jung was completed because of Kim Ji-won.' Director Lee Jung-rim's eye for detail and directing skills, radiating from her small frame, are also incredible. I would dare to call 'Doctor X: Mafia in White' a full gift set."
Raising anticipation for Son Hyun-joo's commanding performance as he returns to a doctor role after decades, "Doctor X: Mafia in White" premieres on Friday, October 9, at 9:50 PM.
