Director Yeon Sang-ho's new film "Lost Paradise" debuted at No. 2 at the box office on its opening day.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie theater tickets on October 22, "Lost Paradise" drew 20,628 moviegoers nationwide on its release day, October 21.

"Lost Paradise" is a psychological thriller that begins when her son SUNOO, whom she thought was dead, miraculously returns alive to Ryu So-young, a mother who lost her son in a camping school bus disappearance nine years ago. Following "The Ugly," it is another low-budget project by director Yeon Sang-ho, produced with a budget of 500 million won.

"The Ugly" opened with 34,985 viewers on its first day and went on to draw 1.08 million moviegoers. Attention is focused on whether "Lost Paradise" can achieve similar results driven by word of mouth. Having already surpassed its break-even point through overseas pre-sales, the film faces relatively little pressure regarding box office performance.

First place at the box office went to "Chiikawa the Movie: Secret of the Mermaid Island," which drew 28,985 moviegoers on the same day.
