The film "Ugly Duckling Ms. Maeng" debuted at No. 3 at the box office on its opening day.
According to data from the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie tickets on October 29, "Ugly Duckling Ms. Maeng" drew 14,332 moviegoers nationwide on its release day, October 28, ranking third behind "Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island" and "Heart of Beast."
Considering that opening day coincided with Culture Day, the figure fell below expectations. As the film centers on the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), attention is turning to whether it can attract test-takers after the exam concludes on November 19.
"Ugly Duckling Ms. Maeng" is a comedy film chronicling the 40-day journey of a Korean language teacher who unexpectedly joins the CSAT exam preparation committee and lives in a sequestered camp cut off from the outside world. Lee Sunbin, Yoo Jae-myung, and Kim Young-min star in the lead roles.
