Ahead of its theatrical premiere next year, the upcoming documentary film "President Kim Dae Jung" is launching a crowdfunding campaign to host nationwide special preview screenings and support promotional activities prior to its release.
Focusing on the 15th presidential election in 1997 and the period following his election, "President Kim Dae Jung" sheds light on how the public's choice sparked historic changes across South Korea. Tracing his defining policy and diplomatic milestones—from the structural economic reforms implemented to overcome the foreign exchange crisis, to the opening of South Korea to Japanese popular culture, to the historic 2000 inter-Korean summit—the film reflects on the true weight of presidential judgment and the responsibilities carried during moments of national crisis.
While its predecessor, "Kim Dae Jung on the Road," chronicled his life and enduring journey fighting for democracy, this follow-up focuses on the deep contemplation and decisive leadership he exercised from the nation's highest office. At a time when questions surrounding the role and accountability of global leaders remain as pressing as ever, the documentary invites viewers to reconsider the meaning of democracy and governance through the critical choices of a president who defined an era.
"President Kim Dae Jung" is currently conducting its crowdfunding campaign to connect with a wider audience. Organized to fund special advance screenings across the country and spread the word about the film's theatrical debut, the campaign offers backers the unique opportunity to have their names listed in the film's ending credits depending on their participation level.
The film was planned by the Kim Dae Jung Peace Center and the Kim Dae Jung Memorial Association, and produced by Myung Films and Cinema 6411, with director Jeong Seong-hun at the helm. It is set to hit theaters on January 6, 2027, marking the 103rd anniversary of President Kim Dae Jung's birth.
