On the November 7 broadcast of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama "Doctor X: Mafia in White" (hereafter "Doctor X"), Gye Soo-jung and her colleagues worked together to save a patient.
On this day, voting regarding a medical strike got underway. Boo Seung-kwon and Bae Heung-gon, however, did not even participate in the vote, looking anxious as they kept checking the time.
Eventually, Boo Seung-kwon took the podium and declared, "There is only one place in this hospital where surgery is underway right now. The smallest child is lying in the largest operating room," revealing that an abdominal multivisceral ex vivo tumor resection and autotransplantation was in progress.
He went on to call it the child's last hope, asking his fellow doctors, "If we are doctors, if we are surgeons, where should we be right now? At this polling station holding patient lives hostage, or in that operating room?" He then said, "This is my choice," and walked out of the voting venue.
Seeing this, Bae Heung-gon urged Ma Sung-gyu, who was standing at the forefront of the medical strike, to head to the operating room together. However, Ma Sung-gyu ultimately could not bring himself to leave the polling venue, leaving Bae Heung-gon to follow Boo Seung-kwon alone.
With Boo Seung-kwon and Bae Heung-gon joining the operating room, Gye Soo-jung and her colleagues picked up their pace and proceeded with the surgery.
Displeased by the situation, the Mokryeonhoe barged into the monitoring room and raised their voices, demanding an immediate halt to the procedure. But Gye Soo-jung urged her colleagues to hold firm, telling them that she would make sure Hyun-ah grows up to become an adult.
In response, Boo Seung-kwon fired back at the Mokryeonhoe who were trying to block them: "Under my authority as hospital director, I will see this surgery through to the end". Turning to Cho Won-jin, he added, "Professor Cho, let's do what you do best," prompting Cho Won-jin to pull the microphone cord and shut out the voices of the Mokryeonhoe.
With Kim Sung-jin also joining in, the operation concluded safely, and everyone involved breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing Hyun-ah's heart beating once again. Gye Soo-jung drew attention by bowing deeply to express her gratitude to her colleagues. Those who took part in the surgery could not hide how overwhelmed they felt by emotions they had not experienced in a long time.
Their joy and sense of accomplishment were short-lived, however, as the Mokryeonhoe suspended everyone who took part in the surgery from their duties. They shocked everyone by announcing suspensions for each member starting with the removal of Hospital Director Boo Seung-kwon from his position, while declaring that Gye Soo-jung's contract termination would be upheld.
Just then, Hyun-ah's mother arrived alongside Jang Hee-sook. Hyun-ah's mother announced that she would file a complaint against the doctors who operated on her daughter. In particular, she drew attention by stating she would also file a complaint against the main branch of Guseo University Hospital and its foundation. This was the final move designed to save Gye Soo-jung and her colleagues.
To this, Kim Chang-soo remarked, "I understand your frustration, but what do you expect to gain by throwing an egg against a rock?" Gye Soo-jung then targeted the Mokryeonhoe, firing back, "You don't hit a rock with an egg expecting the rock to break. You throw it to leave a mark. So that as time goes by, it will give off a foul stench and keep sticking to it. Nobody will wipe it away. More eggs will keep flying in. People will point their fingers and say, 'Here it is, the place that reeks.'"
In the end, disciplinary action against Gye Soo-jung and her colleagues was put on hold. Gye Soo-jung expressed her gratitude to Hyun-ah's guardian for helping them. She then reassured Hyun-ah's mother by telling her, "I never fail."
Meanwhile, the broadcast concluded by revealing a hidden past involving Gye Soo-jung, Cho Won-jin, and Park Tae-kyung surrounding White Wings founder Kim Seung-hyo, raising curiosity about what narrative will unfold next.
