Actors Yoo Yeonseok and Go Ah-sung have been selected as members of the jury for the Actor of the Year award at the 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).

The Actor of the Year award is dedicated to discovering actors who showcase brilliant acting and potential within the Vision - Korea section. One actor and one actress are selected to receive a prize of 5 million won each, with one representative actor and actress from Korea taking on the judging duties each year.

Yoo Yeonseok made his screen debut playing the young Lee Woo-jin in "Oldboy" (2003) and has since solidified his standing as an actor spanning television dramas, films, plays, and musicals. In particular, he proved his mass appeal and acting skills through "Reply 1994" (2013), "Dr. Romantic" (2016), "Mr. Sunshine" (2018), and "Hospital Playlist" (2020, 2021). He has also built his own filmography on the big screen with genre-defying acting transformations in films such as "Architecture 101" (2012), "The Whistleblower" (2014), and "Steel Rain 2: Summit" (2020). In addition, he won the Top Excellence Award for an Actor in a Miniseries at the MBC Drama Awards for the drama "When the Phone Rings" (2024).

Go Ah-sung successfully debuted on the big screen with the 10-million-admissions film "The Host" (2006), winning the Best New Actress award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards and the Actress of the Year award at the Director's Cut Awards, among others. Growing from a child actor into an adult actor, she subsequently proved her solid acting skills through "Snowpiercer" (2013), "Office" (2015), "A Melody to Remember" (2016), and "A Resistance" (2019). From "Samjin Company English Class" (2020), the 28th Busan International Film Festival opening film "Because I Hate Korea" (2024), "Time of Cinema" (2026), to "Pavane" (2026), Go Ah-sung has continuously garnered attention from the public and critics alike.

The Actor of the Year award winners will be announced at the Vision Awards ceremony of the 31st Busan International Film Festival, which will be held from October 6 to October 15, and jury members Yoo Yeonseok and Go Ah-sung plan to attend the ceremony to meet the winners in person and present the awards.

The box office competition for this year's Chuseok holiday is shaping up to be a three-way battle.

According to data from the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie tickets on September 23, "The Assassin(s)" holds firmly onto the No. 1 spot with an advance reservation rate of 30.9% and 237,000 advance tickets sold. Coming in second is "The Odyssey" with 17.2% and 131,000 tickets, followed by "Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub" ("Tazza 4") in third place with 14.6% and 112,000 tickets. "The Intern," which opened on September 16 and enjoyed a six-day streak at the top of the box office, landed in fifth place with 7.2% and 54,000 tickets.

If the current trend continues, "The Assassin(s)" is highly likely to debut at No. 1 at the box office on its opening day. "Tazza 4" also appears poised to debut in second place, buoyed by the momentum of its new theatrical release. While "The Odyssey" demonstrated impressive staying power by reclaiming the top box office spot in its seventh week, its daily audience remains in the 30,000s, making it difficult to overtake the two new releases.

With the most prominent reservation rate and advance ticket sales among the new titles arriving this Chuseok holiday, "The Assassin(s)" is expected to carry its box office run through National Foundation Day and Hangeul Day. However, the true strength of its box office power will only become evident once opening-weekend figures arrive. As a film inspired by modern history, it also holds strong potential to capture public interest and generate widespread conversation.

"The Assassin(s)" traces the suspicions and shadowy forces behind the assassination of the First Lady on August 15, 1974, an event that stunned South Korea. The film is directed by Hur Jin-ho, known for "One Fine Spring Day" and "The Last Princess," and stars Yoo Hai-jin, Park Hae-il, and Lee Minho.

"The Ballad of Us 2" has teased the arrival of a sensational new vocal talent through its second pre-release teaser clip.

Ahead of its premiere on Monday, October 5 at 10 p.m., SBS's "The Ballad of Us 2" released a preview video on September 23 spotlighting a 15-year-old contestant whose rendition of Wheesung's "Can't You" captivated the entire "Top 100 Ears" delegation.

In the released clip, Roy Kim showed high expectations upon seeing the 15-year-old contestant emerge under a single spotlight, remarking, "Fifteen years old? That's the youngest so far." Once the track began, the contestant commanded the entire room from the opening bars with a crystal-clear tone and deep emotional resonance that defied their young age.

As "Can't You" surged toward its emotional climax, the newly joined "Top 100 Ears" panel members Moon Geun-young, Joo Woo-jae, and Roy Kim—along with "Variety Team" member Jun Hyun-moo and "Music Team" member Jung Jae-hyung—could not hold back their continuous gasps of awe. Several panel members even rose from their seats before the performance had concluded, showering the stage with cheers and a standing ovation that foreshadowed the birth of another legendary stage.

"The Ballad of Us 2" is a music competition program where classic, beloved ballads embraced across generations are reinterpreted through the fresh musical sensibilities of contestants with an average age of 17.9. An auction proceeding has begun for a 50 percent stake in a Hanyang Apartment unit in Apgujeong-dong, Seoul, owned by Kim Se-ui, the head of the YouTube channel Hover Lab, who is currently being detained and standing trial on charges including defamation of actor Kim Soo-hyun.

According to legal sources, the Seoul Central District Court decided on September 17 to initiate auction proceedings for real estate registered in Kim’s name. The property, for which the application was filed on September 14, is a unit in Hanyang Apartment in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

The auction was initiated at the request of attorney Kim So-yeon, who claims that Kim has failed to pay approximately 120 million won in legal fees and other payments. Attorney Kim had previously applied for compulsory execution based on a payment order obtained through the Daejeon District Court.

However, multiple senior claims have already been registered against the apartment. The registry shows a mortgage held by Shinhan Bank (approximately 3.396 billion won registered in 2020 and an additional 360 million won in 2024), a provisional seizure of Kim Se-ui’s stake in the amount of 2 billion won by Gold Medalist, the agency representing Kim Soo-hyun, and two tax liens imposed by the Gangnam District Tax Office over unpaid national taxes totaling approximately 2.37 billion won. All of these claims were registered ahead of attorney Kim’s claim. The total amount of claims registered on the property is approximately 8.07 billion won.

According to the registry, the apartment was acquired in 1986 by Kim’s late father, Kim Young-su, a former MBC president. After Kim Young-su died in August 2024, Kim Se-ui and his older sister inherited the apartment, each receiving a 50 percent ownership stake.

Meanwhile, on September 10, the Criminal Proceeds Recovery Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, headed by Chief Prosecutor So Jeong-su, determined through an investigation that included tracing the sponsorship accounts of a company operated by Kim and questioning key individuals involved that Kim had acquired at least 169.4 million won in criminal proceeds in connection with the defamation case involving Kim Soo-hyun. The prosecution subsequently completed the registration of a preservation order over land owned by Kim.

A preservation order is a measure that prevents a defendant or suspect from disposing of specified assets in advance, in preparation for their potential confiscation or collection by the state.

Actor Lee Byung-hun is set to become the voice of a world-renowned museum.

Lee Byung-hun will take part as the narrator for "Korea: 2,000 Years of Creativity," an exhibition opening on October 1 at The British Museum in London. Co-organized by the National Museum of Korea, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), and The British Museum, the exhibition provides a comprehensive spotlight on approximately 2,000 years of Korean culture and art through some 180 masterworks, including national treasures and designated treasures of Korea.

During the exhibition, Lee Byung-hun will guide visitors into the stories behind the displays, introducing Korean culture and historical works with his signature deep, resonant baritone and smooth, stable delivery.

Marking the first comprehensive showcase of Korean art and culture in the United Kingdom in roughly 40 years, the exhibition also includes selected pieces donated by the bereaved family of the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee to the National Museum of Korea and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, making Lee Byung-hun's participation even more meaningful.

Expectations are especially high as his narration goes beyond simply delivering information about the artworks, capturing understated emotion and focused intensity so visitors can feel closer to centuries of accumulated Korean culture and art. Drawing on his refined expressive range and voice acting expertise honed over his career, he is projected to enhance the immersive experience of the Korean showcase at the global institution.

Lee Byung-hun shared the news of his involvement, saying, "I have taken part in narrating the Korean exhibition held at The British Museum in London." Expressing his anticipation for the showcase, he added, "Please show lots of interest, and I will see you in London."

Previously, Lee Byung-hun drew attention for his voice performance as the character Gwima in the Netflix animated film "KPop Demon Hunters." He also contributed to the audio guide for a special joint exhibition between the National Museum of Korea and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. At the time, he personally explained 30 major pieces, fine-tuning each sentence and pronunciation throughout the recording sessions to elevate the final quality.

Meanwhile, the "Korea: 2,000 Years of Creativity" exhibition, narrated by Lee Byung-hun, will run at The British Museum in London from October 1 to January 31, 2027.

Actor Kim Woo-seok is stepping onto the mound at Suwon KT Wiz Park.

Singer Lee Ki-chan, who earned massive popularity with his 2002 hit song "Cold," is staging unique busking performances across major pharmacies as this year's influenza outbreak spreads.

On September 19, Lee released "Cold" (2026), his first remake of the track in 24 years, and launched the "Pharmacy Busking Project" to commemorate the release of the new track. On his social media, he wrote, "Pharmacy Busking Project! Thank you to all the pharmacies that helped out. Also, is this really right?" adding, "Flu vaccination season has started! Please listen to 'Cold.'"

Under the banner of the "Pharmacy Busking Project," Lee has indeed been visiting and performing at numerous large-scale pharmacies, including Mega Factory Pharmacy branches in Seongnam, Gwanggyo, and Seoul; Boryung Pharmacy, Onyu Pharmacy, and Jongo Pharmacy in Jongno; Very New Pharmacy in Seongsu; Pharma Square in Guro; Pantheo Pharmacy and Red Hill in Gangnam; Very New Hongdae; and Medi-Kingdom Pharmacy in Yongsan.

YEONJUNG (27), a former member of I.O.I and current member of WJSN who has continuously showcased her potential by pushing her limits with every project, has been cast in the hit musical "Rebecca".

According to her agency, Starship Entertainment, on the 23rd, YEONJUNG has been cast in the musical "Rebecca", which opens on November 24 at the Chungmu Art Center Grand Theater in Seoul.

The musical "Rebecca" is based on the British author Daphne du Maurier's novel of the same name. Set in the Manderley estate, which is haunted by the memory of the late Rebecca, the story unfolds as a suspenseful tale intertwined with love, obsession, doubt, and secrets. Featuring a script by Michael Kunze and music by Sylvester Levay, the production delivers deep immersion. Since its world premiere in Vienna, Austria, in 2006, it has achieved global success, drawing over 2.8 million audience members across 15 countries. In South Korea, since its premiere in 2013, it has completed seven seasons, surpassed 1 million cumulative audience members, and won numerous awards, gaining recognition for both commercial success and artistic quality.

In this production, YEONJUNG will meet audiences in the role of "I", the narrator of the story. "I" is a pure and delicate character who becomes the new mistress of the Manderley estate after accidentally meeting Maxim, and gradually grows into a strong woman to protect him. YEONJUNG plans to vividly portray the character's internal transformation with her signature delicate vocals and deep emotional expression.

Having debuted in the musical "Lizzie" in 2022, YEONJUNG has since appeared in numerous works including "Crash Landing on You", "Aloha, My Moms", "The Great Comet", "Frida", "Sugar", and "Beethoven", proving her broad acting spectrum regardless of genre. She has been evaluated as firmly establishing herself as a "next-generation musical star" by heightening stage immersion with her powerful vocals and rich emotional acting, captivating audiences, and carving out her own unique presence.

SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama "Doctor X: Mafia in White" (hereinafter "Doctor X: Mafia in White") has instantly heightened anticipation by releasing character posters of its four main leads.

i-dle's SOYEON has fulfilled her previous pledge to hold a vegetable mukbang after her first full-length album title track, "I'm gonna TOESA" (Narr. Kian84), claimed the number one spot on the MelOn TOP100 chart.

On the 22nd, SOYEON appeared on an i-dle official YouTube channel live broadcast and explained why she made the vegetable buffet mukbang pledge for topping the music charts, sharing, "I was so nervous hosting my first-ever radio host gig that I ended up talking nonsense. At the time, I honestly didn't think we would hit number one, so I just threw it out casually. But right after saying it, I got this anxious feeling thinking, 'Wait, this might actually make it to number one.'"

Known for her dislike of vegetables, SOYEON has previously made her strong preferences clear, even surprise-releasing the "Anti-Vegetable Song" last month.

SOYEON stated, "I naturally had to keep my number one pledge. I hate breaking promises more than anything in the world." The film "The Assassin(s)" has surpassed 200,000 in advance ticket sales just one day before its release.

According to the Korean Film Council's box office ticket sales aggregation on September 22, "The Assassin(s)" maintained the top spot in both categories by recording a 30.4% advance booking rate and 204,000 ticket sales.

"The Assassin(s)" drew major attention on September 20 by beating "The Odyssey", which had long held the top spot in advance booking rates, to claim first place overall. This added significance as it marked the first time a Korean film reached the top of the overall advance booking rates in 64 days.

With the current box office leader "The Intern" maintaining daily audiences in the 30,000 range, the possibility of "The Assassin(s)" taking first place upon its release has grown. Although this year's Chuseok holiday is four days long, it leads into the National Foundation Day and Hangeul Day holidays in early October, making capturing the early momentum crucial. This is why attention is particularly focused on the box office results as "The Assassin(s)", "Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub", and "Possible Love" are released simultaneously.

"The Assassin(s)" is a film depicting the pursuit of suspicions and the mastermind behind the assassination of the First Lady that shocked South Korea on August 15, 1974. It was directed by Hur Jin-ho, who made "One Fine Spring Day" and "The Last Princess", and stars Yoo Hai-jin, Park Hae-il, and Lee Minho.

The film opens on September 23.

BTOB's Lee Chang-sub (35) shared a message reflecting on himself following recent controversy over his remarks on a web variety show.

On the 22nd, Lee Chang-sub shared via the fan communication platform Fromm, "It seems like there is a line people should not cross, and while carrying out my recent schedules, it feels like I crossed that line without realizing it. Thinking that I needed to do better, be more entertaining, and be more memorable within content, I found myself obsessing over it without knowing. I had become numb to provocative expressions myself. I will return to my initial mindset, reflect on my words and behavior, and become a moderate person."

This is interpreted as his official stance regarding the controversy surrounding his remarks released on the YouTube channel "12F" on the 17th.

In the video, a story was introduced about a couple where the boyfriend, who drives his girlfriend home after every date, asked her to throw away his trash from inside the car every time, leading to arguments.

Regarding this story, Lee Chang-sub, Kwak Beom, and pH-1 reacted strongly with the stance that the girlfriend lacked consideration, while Kim Ji-yu also sided with the boyfriend. On the other hand, Kim Won-hun alone defended the girlfriend, saying, "This is not trash generated during the date, but the boyfriend's personal trash, so he should handle it himself. Saying 'I did this much by picking you up with my car, so you should do this much' is childish."

In response, Lee Chang-sub reacted strongly, saying, "He went to pick her up without missing a single day. Conversely, if he told his girlfriend, 'I'm tired, so take the bus,' she would probably get upset," and "If she paid for gas because she was grateful that her boyfriend drove her home, then the boyfriend asking her to 'throw away the trash' might have felt a bit off." However, he also backed down a bit, saying, "If it was only the boyfriend's trash, it could feel unpleasant."

Following the broadcast, reactions in the comment section were mixed. One commenter expressed that they would not want to ask even an acquaintance to handle their trash, while another stated that the very idea of asking a lover to throw away one's own trash was hard to understand. There were also reactions that if treating relationships like a transaction is what love is, it would be better not to do it at all.

Group &TEAM surprised fans by releasing the Japanese version of "Good Boy," a track from their second Korean mini album "Mark on Me," at midnight on the 22nd.

"Good Boy" is a track featuring a dynamic 808 beat and energetic choreography. Member KEI participated in creating the choreography, adding &TEAM's signature intense performance style.

On the 21st, &TEAM held a showcase for "Mark on Me" at the Tokyo Garden Theater in Japan, where they performed "Good Boy (Japanese ver.)" for the first time to enthusiastic cheers from fans.

Introducing "Good Boy," the members said, "This is a song that showcases an even more &TEAM-like performance in this album. It features choreography where we tell a story together with the dancers. With powerful rap and vibrant melodies in the pre-chorus, you can experience various charms within a single song."

&TEAM is continuing their clear upward trajectory through promotions for "Mark on Me." With this, &TEAM has achieved million-seller status for four consecutive works.

&TEAM will hold a concert at the KSPO Dome in Songpa-gu, Seoul on October 3-4 to grandly wrap up their Asian tour. Starting with the Tokyo Garden Theater on October 15, they will hold the "2026-2027 &TEAM CONCERT TOUR 'Mark on You'" across 18 cities in Japan for a total of 41 shows.

Director Lee Chang-dong revealed that he discovered something far more valuable than receiving the Silver Lion at this year's Venice International Film Festival.

Attending the press screening and press conference for the film "Possible Love" held at CGV Yongsan in Seoul on the afternoon of September 21, Director Lee Chang-dong addressed a question about the significance of winning the Venice International Film Festival's Silver Lion (Grand Jury Prize), stating, "I am truly happy and honored."

He emphasized, "An award is just an outcome. For me, there was something far more important than winning trophies. The Venice Film Festival was the first place where this film entered the world and met audiences. How the audience would receive this film was much more important to me."

Director Lee continued, "Fortunately, even though it is not an easy or sensational film, I could see from the audience's facial expressions and their demeanor toward me that they deeply felt and resonated with the questions the film poses and what it tries to express."

"Possible Love" was the most talked-about title at this year's Venice International Film Festival. Earning the highest ratings from the press and critics through the closing stretch of the festival, it was widely mentioned as a strong contender for the Golden Lion. Ultimately, it received the Grand Jury Prize, which serves as the runner-up award. With this honor, Director Lee Chang-dong claimed a Venice trophy for the first time in 24 years since winning the Best Director award for "Oasis" in 2002.

"Possible Love" explores the disparate lives and inner desires that a laid-off worker and his wife, alongside a documentary directing couple, confront on a documentary set. The film stars Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung, and Cho Yeo-jeong in the lead roles.

A Netflix film, "Possible Love" will open in select domestic theaters on September 23 before launching worldwide on Netflix on November 6.
