The film "David" has set a meaningful record starting from its opening weekend.

"David," which was released on the 10th, drew 49,834 viewers over two days, surpassing the opening weekend audience (45,049) of the hit religious film "Choir of God," which recorded a total of 1.45 million viewers.

Positive reviews from actual viewers and organic recommendations online are continuing. The film recorded a CGV Egg Index of 96%, a Naver viewer rating of 9.68, a Lotte Cinema viewer rating of 9.8, and a Megabox viewer rating of 9.5.

The way the film adapted the familiar Bible story into a coming-of-age drama has received high praise. The response to the Korean dubbing and OST is also positive. In particular, there is acclaim that the voice acting of Park Bo-gum, who played the title role, enhanced the immersion of the film.

"David" is a work that depicts the story of an ordinary shepherd, David, facing his destiny as a king, starting from his mother's song to his confrontation with the giant Goliath, whom the world feared. Park Bo-gum, Cha Ji-yeon, Jang Gwang, Song Joon-seok, and Si Young-jun participated in the dubbing.

SiWon, a member of the group Super Junior and an actor, has announced that he is beginning new social media activity.

SiWon recently joined Threads, the decentralized social network service operated by Meta, and posted a photo of his back while riding a horse with the caption, "Is this Threads?" He added, "I started Threads, but it is very empty."

SiWon continued, "If it were not for the empathy and support you send, my thoughts might have remained just monologues. Every warm word of support and encouragement is a great comfort and strength to me. I sincerely thank you." He then asked, "Going forward, I want to share the thoughts I have been pondering while worrying about the future of our country with you all. I will also listen to and learn from different opinions. Would it be okay to talk about this together?"

This move by SiWon is drawing attention as it comes amidst a series of political interpretations and debates surrounding his previous social media posts.

Previously, SiWon posted and then deleted the idioms "Injustice inevitably leads to ruin" and "Collapse like a crumbling wall" on the day of the first trial verdict for former President Yoon Suk-yeol, which sparked various interpretations. Last year, he posted and deleted a tribute to American conservative political activist Charlie Kirk. Recently, he posted and deleted a night view photo presumed to be around Olympic Park in Seoul.

In this process, SiWon has taken strong legal action against malicious comments and political speculation directed at him. He initiated procedures by requesting the disclosure of user identity information from X and YouTube through a US court. On the 7th, he posted, "The silence ends here. I will no longer stand by and watch malicious intent," expressing his determination to respond to malicious posts and insulting comments.

The film "HOPE" is signaling a box office sensation, recording nearly 500,000 pre-sale tickets on the eve of its release.

According to the Korean Film Council's pre-sale statistics on the 14th, "HOPE" is firmly holding the number one spot in both categories with a 64.9% pre-sale rate and 470,000 tickets sold. A Korean film nearing 500,000 pre-sale tickets before its release is a phenomenon that was only seen before the COVID-19 pandemic.

"HOPE," which received the largest production budget in Korean film history, has turned on the green light for box office success, carrying the high expectations of audiences rather than being all hype. Expectations have risen even further after being partially revealed to general audiences through press and distribution screenings, Untact Talk, and VIP screenings.

Among general audiences, dominant reviews such as "Crazy movie" and "Action never seen before in Korean cinema" are emerging, leading to expectations that the current momentum will continue after the release.

"HOPE" is a story that begins when Beom-seok, the head of the Hopohang branch located in the demilitarized zone, hears news of a tiger sighting from local youth, and the entire village enters a state of emergency as they encounter an unbelievable reality. It is the first new film in 10 years from director Na Hong-jin, who created "The Chaser," "The Yellow Sea," and "The Wailing," and stars Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Jung Hoyeon, Michael Fassbender, and Alicia Vikander.

The film will be released on the 15th.

Actor Song Jin-woo is set to reveal his life as a husband of 11 years for the first time.

"High Valley, Top Hero," which has gained new energy with the addition of new friends, is set to deliver a blast of laughter with intense game battles and emotional live performances.

In the 4th episode of the SBS show "High Valley, Top Hero," airing on the 14th, various episodes will be unveiled, ranging from a thrilling "all-in game" played by the competitive mountain bachelors to a pride-filled cooking battle between seniors and juniors, and a special live performance that will color the summer night with beautiful harmonies.

They decided to determine the losing team through a ping pong match on a wooden platform. However, it is said that LIM YOUNGWOONG made his teammates nervous with his unpredictable play, repeatedly showing off "fancy air swings" and bold personal skills as soon as the game started.

The dinner cooking time, centered around control of the kitchen, also heats up. Heo Kyung-hwan, who has reigned as the unofficial "cooking expert" of the mountain house, meets an unexpected rival with the appearance of Kwak Beom, a self-proclaimed cooking master. Kwak Beom constantly gave sharp advice throughout the cooking process and made Heo Kyung-hwan sweat by asking suspicious questions like, "Hyung, you have done this before, right?"

In response, Heo Kyung-hwan launched a counterattack by urgently recruiting LIM YOUNGWOONG as an assistant chef, but the food the two ambitiously completed turned into a disastrous "Monster Egg Roll" (a combination of monster and egg roll), causing the set to burst into laughter. On the other hand, Nucksal showed rapidly deepening chemistry with Heo Kyung-hwan, even volunteering to be his minion during the meal and sharing food affectionately. This captured a smile from Heo Kyung-hwan that was the brightest seen throughout the entire season, sparking curiosity about what kind of subtle atmosphere flowed between the two.

At the end of the broadcast, the duet rehearsal of "Melody for You" by LIM YOUNGWOONG and Roy Kim, the highlight of this episode, will be revealed for the first time. The chemistry between the two, which started in a comfortable atmosphere in a corner of the valley, was so perfect in harmony and vocal ability that it made everyone hold their breath, making it hard to believe it was just a rehearsal. The Violent Crimes Unit 1 of "Flex x Cop 2," starring Ahn Bo-hyun, returns with a grander scale and stronger teamwork.

On the 14th, the production team of the new SBS Friday-Saturday drama "Flex x Cop 2" (written by Kim Ba-da, directed by Kim Jae-hong) released stills showing the class-apart dispatch scene of the main character Jin Yi-soo (played by Ahn Bo-hyun) and the Violent Crimes Unit 1 of Gangha Police Station.

"Flex x Cop 2," which premieres on Friday, August 7, as the follow-up to "Agent Kim Reactivated," is a refreshing and exhilarating investigative drama about chaebol detective Jin Yi-soo, who uses his wealth to flip the script when investigations hit a wall, and the new team leader Joo Hye-ra (played by Jung Eun-chae). As a key pillar of the SBS "cider" universe, following in the footsteps of "Taxi Driver," "The Fiery Priest," and "The Judge from Hell," it is a highly anticipated project that will kick off the 2026 SBS seasonal drama lineup with an expanded worldview and cheerful charm.

Most notably, what made viewers doubt their eyes is the dramatic transformation of his Violent Crimes Unit 1 colleagues, Park Joon-young (played by Kang Sang-jun) and Choi Kyung-jin (played by Kim Shin-bi). Park Joon-young, a man of principle who fiercely guarded against Jin Yi-soo last season, calling him a "parachute hire," and the youngest member Choi Kyung-jin, who showed infinite fandom, have completely erased their usual rough detective appearances. Singer DJ Koo has reportedly visited the grave of his late wife, Taiwanese actor Barbie Hsu, to pay his respects, even as various reports continue to circulate regarding her inheritance.

According to the Hong Kong media outlet Sing Tao Headline, Koo visited Barbie Hsu's grave at Jinbaoshan in New Taipei City, Taiwan, on the 8th. The report stated that Koo was spotted by other visitors sitting alone in front of the grave, watching videos of Barbie Hsu from when she was alive on a tablet, bowing his head, and wiping away tears.

Since Barbie Hsu's passing, the issue of her estate inheritance has been a subject of continuous interest in the Greater China region. According to local reports, the legal heirs are her spouse, DJ Koo, and her two children. The two children are set to inherit two-thirds of the total estate, while Koo is to inherit the remaining one-third.

Recently, reports emerged that assets left by Barbie Hsu, valued at over 100 million yuan (approximately 19 billion KRW), are currently frozen due to the inheritance process. This means the assets cannot be legally disposed of until lawyers and banks complete procedures such as property liquidation, inheritance tax deductions, and distribution among the heirs.

In relation to this, the side of her ex-husband, Wang Xiaofei, previously released a five-point statement through their lawyer, stating, "We have already opened a dedicated trust account for the two-thirds of the inheritance that Barbie Hsu's two minor children received according to the law." The statement added, "Wang Xiaofei fully respects how DJ Koo chooses to handle the one-third of the inheritance he received according to the law, based on his own personal plans."

However, claims have recently surfaced suggesting that Koo was pressured to renounce his inheritance of Barbie Hsu's assets. Local media outlets, including Taiwan's SET News, reported that allegations were raised that Barbie Hsu's mother had previously demanded that Koo sign an agreement to renounce his inheritance.

Other media outlets in the Greater China region have also speculated that Koo is planning to enter into mediation proceedings with the representatives of Barbie Hsu's two children through his lawyer.

Meanwhile, Barbie Hsu passed away suddenly on February 2, 2025, while traveling in Japan, due to complications from pneumonia following a flu infection. She was 48 years old. She is survived by two children from her marriage to her ex-husband, Wang Xiaofei.

Actor Jun Ji-hyun has made history as the first Korean actress to receive a special award at the New York Asian Film Festival.

According to distributor Showbox on the 13th, Jun Ji-hyun was honored with the Extraordinary Star Asia Award at the 25th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF).

This award is presented to actors who have contributed to the development of Asian cinema. Jun Ji-hyun is the first Korean actress to receive this recognition.

NYAFF is an Asian film festival that showcases a diverse range of genre films from across Asia. "COLONY" was selected as the opening film for this year's festival, and Jun Ji-hyun, who starred in the film, was honored with the award.

Jun Ji-hyun, who attended the festival with director Yeon Sang-ho, shared her thoughts, saying, "Film is a special endeavor that connects people beyond culture and language. I worked on 'COLONY' with that same heart, and I am delighted to present it to the New York audience."

"COLONY" depicts the desperate struggle of survivors isolated inside a building sealed off due to an unidentified infection, as they face infected beings that evolve in unpredictable ways. Jun Ji-hyun led the film, playing the role of Professor Kwon Se-jeong of Biotechnology.

The film was released domestically on May 21 and has drawn 5.91 million viewers nationwide.

Group RIIZE has proven their immense popularity in Japan by sweeping the top spots on major local weekly album charts.

RIIZE topped both the Oricon Weekly Album Ranking and the Billboard Japan Top Album Sales chart with their second mini-album "II," which was released on June 15. The tracking period for these charts was from July 6 to July 12.

On the morning of July 14, Oricon shared the news through their official website with an article titled "RIIZE, Second Album to Reach Number One."

With this achievement, RIIZE has once again reached the top of the Oricon Weekly Album Ranking, following their first mini-album "RIIZING" released in 2024.

"II" became a million-seller just four days after its release, marking the fourth million-seller record for RIIZE. In Korea, the album also achieved significant results, including topping the Circle Monthly Album Chart for June, securing two wins on the Circle Weekly Chart, topping the Hanteo Weekly Chart, reaching number one on the Melon Global K-Chart (daily) and HOT100, and winning three music show trophies.

The group continued their success on global charts as well. They reached number one on the iTunes Top Album charts in 6 regions worldwide, topped the integrated K-Pop chart across five music platforms under Tencent Music in China, and received 'Platinum' certification on QQ Music while also topping their weekly digital album sales chart.

Actor Choi Kang-hee (49) has opened up about her past plans to leave the entertainment industry and work at a mask factory.

Appearing on Lee Sung-mi's YouTube channel, which was released on the 13th, Choi reflected on the time she took a hiatus from her acting career. She confessed that despite debuting at a young age and working in the industry for a long time, she went through difficult times due to low self-esteem and a fear of people, eventually leading her to want to put down her profession as an actor and live an ordinary life.

Choi Kang-hee said, "I think I was exhausted, scared, and my mental state had collapsed quite a bit. As you know, I don't have much greed, so I just wanted to live as myself. If there was a second life, I wanted to try living it." She added, "I had no fear at all. I thought I would survive somehow. My family is also similar to me, so we don't have greed for money. Even if you give us money, we don't spend it."

In fact, it was reported that after stopping her acting activities, Choi Kang-hee intended to get a job at a mask factory, which was very busy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She explained, "Because it was during the COVID-19 era, I thought the mask factory would be extremely busy, so I planned to go there. At that time, my close friend, comedian Mija, suggested that I work at the BBQ restaurant she was running, so I took on the dishwashing job. Mija was studying for a real estate license at the time, so she wasn't at the shop often. I was nervous working with people I didn't know, but it was fun, and I felt a sense of accomplishment in getting the job done."

Choi Kang-hee spent her time cleaning houses for Song Eun-i and Kim Sook or working part-time washing dishes at the BBQ restaurant. When asked by Lee Sung-mi, "Even though you were a celebrity, didn't you feel sad about working like that all of a sudden?" she replied, "I didn't have that thought at all. Not even 1%. I actually felt very refreshed." She drew laughter by adding, "I even thought, 'I should target celebrities. I should do celebrity-specialized cleaning.' I also thought about learning massage."

Choi Kang-hee also revealed that her thoughts on marriage have changed significantly along with her Faith. Regarding the past, she said, "Because I had a sense of lack, many people around me also had a sense of lack. So I thought there were no happy couples. However, as I gradually saw couples living happily, I naturally started thinking about marriage." She honestly added, "My ideal type is a Christian."

SEVENTEEN member MINGYU has called for restraint, warning that disorderly behavior by some fans at airports could lead to safety accidents.

During a recent live broadcast, MINGYU shared his concerns while discussing a dangerous situation he encountered at an airport. He stated, "Lately, there has been no order at the airport. I was walking after getting off the plane, and there was an elderly person in front of me. If you don't look ahead, someone could really get hurt."

RIIZE's SUNGCHAN, who previously served as a fixed host for "INKIGAYO" and was recognized for his smooth hosting skills and witty remarks, will serve as the anchor. Joining him are NCT WISH's SION, who showcased a fresh and witty charm as a special host for "INKIGAYO", and Hearts2Hearts' IAN, who acted as a human vitamin with her unique bright energy during her time as a special host. As SION and IAN make their debut as main hosts for a large-scale music festival, they are expected to create chemistry like no other under the guidance of their reliable senior, SUNGCHAN, who was also a part of "INKIGAYO".

Celebrating its third summer this year, "Gayo Daejeon Summer" has built a powerful lineup of 27 teams that span generations and genres, including previously confirmed acts such as Stray Kids, BABYMONSTER, RIIZE, NCT WISH, Hearts2Hearts, as well as SEVENTEEN's DINO, BIBI, and YENA, promising an unprecedented scale for a first-half wrap-up show.

"How Far Are You" is Kim Gun-mo's first official new song in 10 years since his 25th-anniversary album "50" in 2016. It is a remake of the song of the same name by singer Jeon Young, originally released in 1977. The arrangement minimizes instrumentation to highlight the lyrical melody of the original, allowing Kim Gun-mo's unique, calm, and deepened voice to shine through.

At the heart of this response is Kim Gun-mo's voice. As this music video marks his return after a six-year hiatus—following the complete legal resolution of private life allegations raised by a YouTuber in 2019—many have flooded the comments with support. Comments include, "Kim Gun-mo is truly irreplaceable," "Please cherish that voice. Keep singing for a long time," and "We almost lost a genius singer. Thank you so much for coming back." Singer John Park is returning to the music scene with a new song after approximately 10 months.

John Park appeared as a guest on Sung Si-kyung's YouTube content, which was released on the 8th, and personally shared the news of his new song release. While tasting Pyongyang naengmyeon made by Sung Si-kyung and discussing music, he revealed that he would be releasing a new single sometime in July.

Regarding the new song, which is still veiled in mystery, John Park introduced it by saying, "It is a bit breezy but has a beat, and it is funky and soulful. It is a slightly retro, breezy summer song that evokes nostalgia."

In particular, John Park participated in the lyrics, composition, and arrangement of this new song, further deepening his own musical color. Sung Si-kyung expressed his affection while praising John Park's vocal ability, stating, "Musicians all know that John Park is an incredibly good singer."

A special collaboration promise between the two was also made. Actor Cha Jung-won receives an impromptu scouting offer from comedian Lee Su-ji after showing off her unexpected variety skills.

On the SBS variety program "uh, but like, seriously!" airing on the 13th, Ivy, Cha Jung-won, and Joo Hyun-young, who are active across musicals and television, will appear together to share real behind-the-scenes stories that have never been heard before.

First, Ivy, who made history as the first Korean actor to step onto a Broadway stage, calmly confessed the process of crossing the high threshold of the world-renowned musical "Chicago." Actor Go Youn-jung has confirmed her upcoming projects, spanning both a series and a film.

In the Disney+ original series "Moving Season 2," she will continue the story of Jang Hee-soo, a character who was beloved in the first season. Additionally, she is set to showcase a new side of her action acting in the film "Nambeol," the directorial debut of cinematographer Lee Mo-gae.

According to her agency, AAP, Go Youn-jung is currently undergoing training in action and horseback riding for "Nambeol." She is also continuing her preparations to convincingly portray the movements and action sequences of Jang Hee-soo in "Moving Season 2."

The film "Nambeol" is a hard-boiled martial arts action story about nine warriors of varying skills and social classes in the early Joseon dynasty who head to Tsushima Island to rescue captives kidnapped by Japanese raiders. Go Youn-jung plays Aeryeong, a character who loses her family to a raid by Japanese raiders and throws herself into the battlefield to save her younger brother, who is being held captive on Tsushima Island. Aeryeong is a character who carries both the pain of loss and a determined purpose.

Go Youn-jung plans to delicately portray the process by which the character's desperation translates into action, showcasing a different charm from her previous roles. Through her preparation, including action and horseback riding, she aims to concretely realize the movements and survival instincts of Aeryeong, who is thrust into the battlefields of the Joseon dynasty.

Unlike Aeryeong, whom she is introducing for the first time in "Nambeol," she will return as Jang Hee-soo in "Moving Season 2" to depict the growth and changes of the character with greater depth. "Moving Season 2" is a human action series where superpowered individuals, who have returned to their daily lives after the Jeongwon High School incident, face new crises and fight once again to protect their loved ones.

Jang Hee-soo, played by Go Youn-jung, is a character who possesses both warmth and strength. Go Youn-jung plans to once again unfold the inner world of Jang Hee-soo, who has continuously made choices and grown while protecting her family and friends, through her signature calm and restrained emotional acting.

In the second season, she is expected to show the changes and growth of Jang Hee-soo as she faces crises, while also leading the character's emotions and movements at the center of an expanded human action narrative.
