Director Kim Jae-hong, who returns to direct Season 2 following Season 1, stated, "We had only one goal: a Season 2 that is better than Season 1. The main principle for Season 2 was not to try things we haven't done before, but to do what we did well even better. While maintaining the kitschiness and wit, I pondered how Jin Yi-soo, who has grown into a true detective, would utilize his wealth in investigations."

He continued, "We prepared cases that happen only because it is Jin Yi-soo, and cases that can only be solved because it is Jin Yi-soo. The episodes are of such high difficulty that we often thought, 'How on earth are we going to film this?' To solve these difficult cases, Jin Yi-soo's flex had to scale up even further. To put it simply, while Jin Yi-soo only rode helicopters in Season 1, this time he even takes private jets overseas to catch criminals. We put a lot of effort into making these scenes blend naturally into the drama, as they could otherwise look like unrealistic cartoons," hinting at an expanded scale.

He expressed deep trust in the title role actor Ahn Bo-hyun. Director Kim praised him, saying, "He has ridiculous physical stats and visuals, but on top of that, he is smart, funny, and has a great personality. According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie theater tickets on the 23rd, "HOPE" drew 131,829 viewers nationwide on the 22nd. Its cumulative audience reached 2,533,444.

"HOPE" surpassed 2 million moviegoers in just five days after its release, boasting the fastest box office pace among films released this year. Above all, polarized reactions toward the film could potentially hinder the expansion of word-of-mouth recommendations. "HOPE" is expected to surpass 3 million moviegoers sometime this week. It still has a long way to go to reach its break-even point of 7 million.

"HOPE" is a sci-fi action thriller about Beom-seok (played by Hwang Jung-min), the head of a sub-office in Hopohang located in the Demilitarized Zone, who visits the site after receiving a report about tigers and encounters an unimaginable presence. Directed by Na Hong-jin, who created "The Chaser" and "The Wailing," the film stars Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, and Jung Hoyeon.

Singer Sean has successfully completed a 72-hour non-stop 815km relay run alongside 100 runners ahead of the 81st anniversary of National Liberation Day.

Habitat for Humanity Korea announced that it held South Korea's first 72-hour non-stop "815km Relay Run" with Sean from July 20 to 23 at the Anyangcheon Multi-Sports Zone track in Seoul.

This event was organized as a preliminary event ahead of the "2026 815 Run" to be held this Liberation Day. It was planned to raise awareness for housing environment improvement projects for descendants of independence activists and to boost public interest.

The relay run was conducted in a format where 100 runners each ran 8.15km to complete a total of 815km. Using smartphones provided by Samsung Health as batons, records were passed on in real-time, and Sean took on both the first and last runners, marking the start and finish of the relay.

Participants were selected from among applicants for the "2026 815 Run" who could complete 8.15km at a pace of 5 minutes 10 seconds to 5 minutes 30 seconds.

Sean plans to run 81.5km as usual this Liberation Day as well. For the "2026 815 Run" to be held on August 15, about 4,000 offline participants at Sangam World Cup Park and about 15,000 virtual runners participating from all over the country will run 8.15km together. All donations, including participation fees, will be used for housing environment improvement projects for descendants of independence activists.

Lee Kwang-hoe, Secretary General of Habitat for Humanity Korea, stated, "Through South Korea's first non-stop "815km Relay Run" joined by 100 runners, it became an opportunity to further spread awareness about the housing support project for descendants of independence activists. We ask for your continued interest in the "2026 815 Run" held on Liberation Day and the housing environment improvement project for descendants of independence activists."

Meanwhile, Sean and Habitat for Humanity Korea have been raising housing environment improvement funds for descendants of independence activists through the "3.1 Run" and "815 Run" campaigns since 2020. With the funds raised so far, new homes have been established in 23 regions nationwide, including Hwasun in South Jeolla Province, Dongducheon in Gyeonggi Province, Cheongyang in South Chungcheong Province, Changwon in South Gyeongsang Province, Ulsan, Jecheon in North Chungcheong Province, and Cheongsong in North Gyeongsang Province.

Police have requested an arrest warrant for a third time against Cha Ga-won, the head of the entertainment agency One Hundred, who is facing allegations of fraud involving around 30 billion won.

On the 22nd, the Financial Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency requested an arrest warrant for CEO Cha on charges including fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes. Previously, police applied for arrest warrants twice, in early May and on the 15th of the same month, but prosecutors rejected both requests with instructions to conduct additional investigations to supplement the criminal fact configuration.

CEO Cha is accused of proposing a business utilizing the intellectual property (IP) of artists under her management agency to Nomus Inc., signing a contract, and receiving an advance payment of 24.2 billion won without actually carrying out the business.

Police suspect that CEO Cha concluded a double contract while concealing the situation even though the existing contract was unlikely to expire, and that she also failed to prepare to fulfill the business. Separately, CEO Cha is also accused of failing to fulfill a contract and receiving a deposit of 5.4 billion won after promising to enter into a jeonse lease agreement with an acquaintance for each other's homes.

CEO Cha's side strongly protested the police's third warrant application. Hyun Dong-yeop, an attorney at Law Firm Hwa-Geum representing CEO Cha, claimed in a statement and a YouTube video, "It is proof that the prosecution's supplementary investigation power is desperately needed when the police commit illegal investigations that directly violate the Criminal Procedure Act and apply for an arrest warrant based on them."

Attorney Hyun also claimed, "Chairperson Cha Ga-won has fully cooperated with the investigation, submitted all relevant materials and forensic data, so there is no concern about destruction of evidence and no reason to flee. As a mother with a middle school child, there is no possibility of flight whatsoever." He repeatedly denied the necessity of an arrest, stating, "The formatting of former employees' computers is merely a standard company protocol and not the destruction of evidence, and they are driving Chairperson Cha Ga-won based solely on the statements of employees."

Meanwhile, apart from CEO Cha's case, Hive Chairman Bang Si-hyuk, who faces allegations of fraudulent unfair trading under the Capital Markets Act, has also had arrest warrants requested twice by police, both of which were rejected by prosecutors. At the time, prosecutors returned the warrants on the grounds that the police had not sufficiently fulfilled the supplementary investigation requirements.

Originally scheduled for July 21, her appearance was pushed back by a day due to rain cancellations. This marks the first time a VR content will be screened in a sound-specialized theater, drawing high anticipation for the encounter between VR concerts and "Gwang-eum Cinema," which has shown unrivaled strengths in live concert films. Through woofer sound that resonates throughout the entire body, this screening is set to vividly deliver the thrill of actually being at a concert venue.

In addition, offline events designed to stimulate fans' desire to collect have been prepared to commemorate this screening. Official merchandise available for purchase at the Lotte Cinema Sweet Shop (concession stand) will be launched, along with various weekly special perks.

RM, the leader of the group BTS, has shared thoughtful and honest thoughts.

Appearing in an interview with British fashion designer Bella Freud released on the 22nd, RM opened up candidly about everything from BTS's leadership to reading, art, and the philosophy behind his solo album.

Confessing that he never initially dreamed of becoming a global star despite the worldwide success of BTS, he shared his perspective: "In the pop industry, it is easy to get bogged down by charts, numbers, and influence, but I try to distance myself from those things and find inspiration in nature and real life. Shorts and Reels constantly pressure you to do something. I am most afraid of an era that moves too fast."

Having debuted with BTS in 2013, RM has served as the anchor and leader of the group. Reflecting on his role as a leader, he said, "Imagine a situation where everyone is lying on the sofa and the window is open, making it cold. Someone has to close the window, but everyone is too comfortable and no one wants to move. I think a leader's role is being the person who gets up and closes the window in that moment. If someone has to do it, I thought I should be the one."

He explained, "For the first eight or nine years, I had a very strong and somewhat dogmatic leadership style. As the group grew and the members built their own names and careers, that approach no longer worked. Since then, I've changed the way I communicate. When the members tell me, 'We know how hard you're trying. It's really great to have a leader like you,' all the stress from the past melts away. That is the beauty of a team."

He also showed special affection for his second solo full-length album, "Right Place, Wrong Person," released in 2024. He stated, "Since I've always lived with the mindset that I 'have to do well,' for this album, I focused more on becoming more comfortable and breaking away from a state of constant tension."

Wing Shya, a photographer who has collaborated extensively with film director Wong Kar-wai, participated in the album's visual work.

Relating to the album title, he shared, "I think most people living in 2026 can feel that way. Even at work, you might feel like, 'Am I the only one who is wrong?' or 'Am I the only one thinking or acting this way?' Everyone has experienced feeling like 'I am in the right place, but I feel like the wrong person,' or conversely, 'I am the right person, but I'm in the wrong place.' Thanks to mobile phones and media, people are getting more and more connected, but paradoxically, more people are suffering from depression and loneliness."

The conversation continued with a discussion on reading. Remembering his childhood when his parents took him to the municipal library every week, RM maintains a deep affection for books and art. He picked Hermann Hesse's "Demian" as a book that changed his life.

Expressing his gratitude, he said, "Through that book, I discovered the nature and reality of jealousy within myself for the first time. It allowed me to reflect on the jealousy I felt toward friends in class who were tall, handsome, good at studying, good at sports, and popular with the girls. I've read this book four or five times. Thanks to it, I gained the opportunity to naturally encounter the great wisdom left behind by senior generations."

SEVENTEEN member VERNON and B1A4 member SANDEUL appear as new story friends on "Tails of Tales" to open up about their first loves.

SBS "Tails of Tales", airing on the 23rd, will feature the century-spanning romance of Ahn Jae-hyung and Jiao Zhimin. On this episode, SEVENTEEN's VERNON, B1A4's SANDEUL, and actor Kim Su-jin step in as listeners to join in on a heart-pounding love story. Notably, this marks VERNON and SANDEUL's first appearance on "Tails of Tales".

During a recent recording, VERNON caught attention by sharing his sentimental memories. He shyly confessed, "I had my first love in middle school," and added, "I believe in love at first sight," revealing his honest perspective on romance. In response, MC Jang Sung-kyu shared his own romantic side, saying, "I also fell in love at first sight and it led to marriage," sharing how he ended up marrying his elementary school classmate.

The upcoming episode will fully reveal the legendary love story of South Korean table tennis star Ahn Jae-hyung and Chinese table tennis star Jiao Zhimin, who broke down the walls of borders and ideologies to capture the world's attention in the 1980s.

Listeners could not hide their admiration upon seeing the couple, who appeared with enduring warm visuals as if defying 40 years of time. Former table tennis player Kim Ki-taek, a colleague who watched Ahn Jae-hyung closely at the time, testified to his desperate dedication, saying, "Jaehyung played Chinese language tapes every single day even in the dorm. It was almost overwhelming. Even when no one was listening to those tapes, he would leave them playing and never turned them off, yet not a single colleague in the dorm complained."

When the tumultuous twists and turns of the couple's difficult romance and the first confession letter sent by a young Ahn Jae-hyung in his twenties were revealed, actor Kim Su-jin burst into tears. VERNON also expressed deep emotion and lingering resonance, saying, "Have I ever been this earnest about anything?"

The cinematic love story of South Korea and China's top sports stars, who transcended the barriers of language and ideology, will be unveiled tonight on "Tails of Tales" airing at 10:20 PM on the 23rd.

Singer WOODZ (real name Cho Seung-youn) is making his screen debut in the film "Nambeol" (literal title).

"Nambeol" is a hard-boiled martial arts action film set in the early Joseon Dynasty, following nine warriors with diverse skills and social ranks as they head to Tsushima Island to rescue hostages kidnapped by Japanese raiders. Following the early casting news of actors Lee Byung-hun, Go Youn-jung, and Lee Do-hyun, Cho Seung-youn, who is active as a representative K-icon, has joined the lineup, raising expectations for bringing fresh energy to the project.

Cho Seung-youn plays "Cheotnom", an infallible archer who embarks on the dangerous expedition to Tsushima Island to provide for his family left behind at home. With a strong sense of responsibility toward his family and comrades, "Cheotnom" will add deep emotional lines to the film through his desperate conviction to protect everyone amidst a harsh battlefield.

Having solidified his position as an artist with an overwhelming presence on stage, Cho Seung-youn opens a new horizon as an actor through "Nambeol". He plans to promote in his acting activities under his real name, Cho Seung-youn. Curiosity is growing over what kind of acting and energy he will show on the screen as he expands his spectrum through various projects.

"Nambeol" is receiving significant attention as the directorial debut of cinematographer Lee Mo-gae, who has showcased unique mise-en-scene in bold works such as "12.12: The Day", "Exhuma", "Yadang", and "Emergency Declaration". Having been recognized for his outstanding sense by winning the Film Category Art Award at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards, the Cinematography and Lighting Award at the 43rd and 37th Blue Dragon Film Awards, and the Cinematography Award at the 31st and 29th Blue Dragon Film Awards, he is expected to showcase exceptional directing skills by capturing grand narratives along with intense action and visuals in this new work.

Foreshadowing overwhelming casting synergy with the addition of Cho Seung-youn following Lee Byung-hun, Go Youn-jung, and Lee Do-hyun, "Nambeol" is currently in pre-production with the goal of cranking in during the second half of 2026.

JENNIE looks into the camera and softly recites the lyrics of her new song before holding Kai's hand and running together, creating a vibe straight out of a youth film.

JENNIE participated in the overall production of this new song, including lyric writing and music video direction. Ahead of its official release, she performed it ahead of time on the stages of the US "The Governors Ball Music Festival 2026" and Spain's "Mad Cool Festival," garnering enthusiastic responses from global fans. She is also scheduled to take the stage next month at "Lollapalooza Chicago" in the US and "Summer Sonic 2026" in Japan.

Group BIGBANG is holding a large-scale free event with fans at Hangang Park in Seoul to mark their 20th debut anniversary.

Coupang Play announced the news of "BIGBANG 20th X Hangang Collaboration: BIGBANG UNIVERSE" through its official social media channels on the 22nd.

According to the released poster, the event will take place on August 19 at 8:00 PM around the Mulbit Stage at Yeouido Hangang Park in Seoul. The performance has been prepared to commemorate BIGBANG's 20th debut anniversary, and anyone can attend for free.

This event serves as a pre-event held ahead of BIGBANG's new world tour "XX : COSMOS," which will take place from August 21 to 23 at the Goyang Gymnasium in Gyeonggi Province.

Coupang Play stated that it plans to present a variety of programs at the event, including a DJ performance reinterpreting BIGBANG's hit songs, media art, a large-scale drone show, and fireworks.

The multi-layered charm of "The Journey to Gyeongju," which encompasses thrillers, black comedy, and family drama around the intense subject of revenge, continues to captivate film festivals around the world.

Invited to the 30th Fantasia International Film Festival, North America's largest genre film festival that opened on July 16, Nicolas Archambault, Asia programming director, lavished praise on the film, saying, "It is one of my favorite works in this year's lineup," adding, "Every element from the wide emotional spectrum oscillating between laughter and fear, to the actors' performances, direction, and script, is truly phenomenal."

Additionally, as the film has been invited to the 6th Korean Film Festival Barcelona opening on September 2, Gloria Fernandez, a programmer, praised it by saying, "It is an intense and unpredictable dark humor thriller that allows no compromise for the audience while love, loss, and revenge intertwine," raising expectations for the film.

The film "HOPE" is holding a GV (Guest Visit) event featuring writer Kang Full and actor Zo In-sung.

Actor Woo Do Hwan is continuing his strong journey with his current agency, Blitzway Entertainment.

Earlier this year, he returned as Geon-woo in season 2 of the Netflix series "Bloodhounds," driving global box office success by pulling off even more spectacular high-difficulty action and deepened emotional lines. Building on these achievements, he proved his potential as an actor by winning the Special Acting Award in the OTT category at the 46th Golden Cinematography Awards last June.
