Actor Koo Kyo-hwan has shared the behind-the-scenes story of his unique facial muscle acting in the film "COLONY".

Attending the press screening and press conference for the film "COLONY" held on the afternoon of May 20 at CGV Yongsan in Seoul, Koo Kyo-hwan plays the role of Seo Young-cheol, a biologist who controls zombies.

Seo Young-cheol is a genius biologist who previously worked at a biotech company and longs for the birth of a new humanity. At the center of the infection outbreak inside a building, he reports beforehand that he has the vaccine in his own body, making himself a target for both the authorities and the survivors.

In the film, Koo Kyo-hwan drew attention with his performance of controlling zombies using his facial muscles. Regarding this, he shared, "This is the first study Seo Young-cheol has attempted, and the first time he has experienced this kind of communication. That's why I tried to use my facial muscles somewhat roughly. When the connection became smoother, I made it look like communication was possible just by blinking. In the highlight scene with Se-jeong in the latter half, I used various actions involving my hands and feet."

He added, "Director Yeon Sang-ho gave a great demonstration of the acting. Among ourselves, we called it 'magnesium action' because it involved eye-twitching acting," drawing laughter.

"COLONY" is a film about isolated survivors inside a building locked down due to an unidentified infection outbreak, facing infected beings who evolve in unpredictable ways. The film was invited to the Midnight Screenings section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, where it made its world premiere.

Immediately after its screening in Cannes, favorable reviews of Koo Kyo-hwan's performance emerged from foreign media, with some even calling him the "Korean Joker."

"COLONY" will meet domestic audiences starting May 21.
